Senior Mechanical MEP Engineer

About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Mechanical MEP Engineer with a minimum of 10 years of specialized expertise in mechanical building services engineering. The ideal candidate will play a pivotal role in leading the design, technical review, multidisciplinary coordination, and site assessment of mechanical systems for a diverse portfolio of building and infrastructure projects. This position demands a deep understanding of mechanical engineering principles, hands-on site survey experience, and the capability to guide projects from initial concept design through to construction, commissioning, and final handover.

Key Responsibilities

The Senior Mechanical MEP Engineer will be responsible for the following core duties:

• Design Leadership: Lead the development of comprehensive mechanical systems, including HVAC, plumbing, drainage, and fire protection, ensuring alignment with project objectives and client requirements.
• Technical Documentation: Prepare and review engineering calculations, technical reports, specifications, and detailed design drawings to ensure accuracy and compliance with industry standards.
• Design Validation: Conduct thorough reviews of engineering deliverables, including design drawings, BIM models, and shop drawings, to identify and resolve discrepancies or potential issues.
• Site Assessment & Surveys: Perform detailed site surveys, field investigations, and condition assessments to gather critical design data and validate existing site conditions, ensuring practical and feasible engineering solutions.
• Multidisciplinary Coordination: Collaborate closely with architectural, structural, electrical, and BIM teams to deliver integrated and cohesive design solutions that meet project timelines and quality benchmarks.
• Stakeholder Engagement: Participate in design review meetings with clients, consultants, contractors, and other stakeholders to present technical solutions, address concerns, and ensure alignment with project goals.
• Construction Support: Provide on-site technical clarifications, resolve design-related issues, and support construction activities to maintain project momentum and adherence to specifications.
• Commissioning Assistance: Assist commissioning teams in conducting system testing, performance verification, and project handover activities to ensure seamless operational readiness.
• Compliance & Quality Assurance: Ensure all designs comply with international standards, local regulations, project specifications, and stringent quality requirements to deliver safe, efficient, and sustainable mechanical systems.
• Value Engineering: Contribute to value engineering initiatives and continuous improvement efforts to optimize design solutions, reduce costs, and enhance project outcomes.

Requirements

To qualify for this role, candidates must meet the following criteria:

• Education: A Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering from a recognized institution.
• Experience: Minimum of 10 years of progressive experience in mechanical MEP engineering, with a strong background in design consultancy projects.
• Site Experience: Proven expertise in conducting site surveys and field assessments to inform design decisions.
• Project Exposure: Experience in commercial, mixed-use, hospitality, healthcare, industrial, infrastructure, or airport projects is highly advantageous.
• Regional Experience: Prior involvement in Middle East or GCC-based projects is preferred, with a deep understanding of local regulations and standards.

Technical Competencies

The ideal candidate will possess the following technical skills and proficiencies:

• System Expertise: Strong knowledge of HVAC, plumbing, drainage, and fire protection systems, with the ability to design and optimize these systems for efficiency and performance.
• Software Proficiency: Advanced skills in AutoCAD, Revit MEP, and Navisworks, with the ability to leverage these tools for design development and coordination.
• Calculation Software: Familiarity with HVAC calculation software such as HAP, Carrier, or equivalent tools to perform load calculations and system sizing.
• BIM Coordination: In-depth understanding of BIM coordination processes and design workflows to ensure seamless integration across disciplines.
• Regulatory Knowledge: Comprehensive understanding of ASHRAE, NFPA, SMACNA, Saudi Building Code (SBC), and other relevant engineering standards and codes.
