Position Overview

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Maintenance Engineer – Heavy Vehicles to oversee and execute comprehensive maintenance strategies for our fleet of heavy-duty trucks and associated equipment. This critical role demands a proactive leader who can drive preventive, corrective, and breakdown maintenance initiatives to ensure maximum fleet availability, reliability, and performance. The ideal candidate will combine technical expertise with strong leadership skills to maintain operational efficiency while adhering to stringent safety and environmental standards.

Key Responsibilities

The Maintenance Engineer will play a pivotal role in maintaining the integrity and functionality of our heavy vehicle fleet. Core responsibilities include:

• Workshop Maintenance Supervision: Oversee daily maintenance operations, allocate resources effectively, and ensure timely completion of repairs to minimize downtime.
• Preventive Planned Maintenance (PPM): Develop, implement, and manage structured maintenance schedules to proactively address potential issues, extend asset lifespan, and reduce unplanned breakdowns.
• Corrective & Breakdown Maintenance: Lead fault diagnosis and expedite repairs to restore vehicles to operational status swiftly and efficiently.
• Technical Expertise: Provide in-depth technical support across mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and electronic systems to ensure comprehensive vehicle maintenance.
• Diagnostic & Technical Control: Utilize advanced OEM diagnostic tools and industry best practices to perform accurate root-cause analysis and resolve complex technical issues.
• Quality Control: Enforce rigorous quality assurance protocols to guarantee that all repairs meet or exceed safety, operational, and regulatory standards prior to vehicle release.
• Workshop Planning & Productivity: Optimize workshop workflows, enhance technician productivity, and streamline maintenance turnaround times to support operational demands.
• Spare Parts & Material Control: Coordinate spare parts procurement and inventory management to ensure timely availability while minimizing excess stock and associated costs.
• Maintenance Cost Control: Monitor and analyze maintenance expenditures, identifying cost-saving opportunities without compromising quality or safety.
• Health, Safety & Environment (HSE): Champion a culture of safety within the workshop, ensuring strict adherence to company HSE policies and fostering a hazard-free working environment.
• Workshop Documentation & Maintenance Records: Maintain meticulous records of all maintenance activities, ensuring accurate and up-to-date documentation for compliance and operational transparency.
• Team Supervision & Development: Mentor and develop workshop personnel, fostering a high-performing team through coaching, training, and performance management.
• Coordination with Operations: Collaborate closely with operations and fleet teams to align maintenance activities with business objectives, maximizing vehicle availability and operational readiness.
• Warranty & External Repairs: Manage warranty claims and oversee repairs conducted by external service providers to ensure compliance with contractual and technical requirements.

Education & Experience

To excel in this role, candidates must meet the following qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Automotive Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering, or a related technical field.
• Minimum of five years of relevant maintenance experience, with at least two to three years dedicated to heavy-duty truck or commercial vehicle workshop operations.
• Proven experience supervising mechanics and technicians, with a track record of leading high-performing teams.
• Familiarity with large mixed fleets and specialized vehicles is highly advantageous.

Technical Competencies

The successful candidate will possess a robust technical skill set, including:

• Expertise in heavy-duty diesel engines and commercial vehicle transmissions.
• Proficiency in pneumatic braking systems, hydraulic, electrical, and electronic vehicle systems.
• Hands-on experience with diagnostic tools and fault-code interpretation to troubleshoot complex issues.
• Strong understanding of preventive and predictive maintenance techniques, including Root Cause Analysis (RCA).
• Competency in workshop planning, scheduling, spare parts management, and maintenance cost control.
• Knowledge of fleet reliability management, OEM maintenance standards, and workshop HSE requirements.
• Familiarity with Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS), Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP), and fleet maintenance software.
• Exceptional technical troubleshooting abilities and strong supervisory skills.
• Outstanding planning, organization, and prioritization skills, particularly under operational pressure.
• Analytical mindset with a keen attention to safety and technical precision.
• Cost-conscious decision-making and effective communication skills to drive operational efficiency.
• Demonstrated ownership and accountability for workshop performance and outcomes.
