We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior MEP Design Engineer to join our dynamic team. In this pivotal role, you will play a critical part in ensuring the technical excellence, coordination, and compliance of Mechanical, Electrical, and Plumbing (MEP) designs throughout the entire project lifecycle. Your expertise will be instrumental in delivering projects that meet the highest standards of quality, safety, and efficiency, while aligning with client requirements, regulatory codes, and industry best practices. You will collaborate closely with a diverse range of stakeholders, including consultants, BIM teams, construction professionals, subcontractors, and other engineering disciplines, to resolve complex design challenges, optimize solutions, and drive successful project execution.

About the Role

The Senior MEP Design Engineer is responsible for the comprehensive technical review, coordination, and development of MEP designs from inception to completion. This role demands a meticulous approach to ensure that all MEP systems are not only technically compliant but also constructible, cost-effective, and fully aligned with the approved design intent. You will act as a key technical liaison, bridging the gap between design and construction while ensuring seamless integration with architectural, structural, and civil elements. Your responsibilities will encompass a wide spectrum of activities, from reviewing and coordinating design documents to resolving site-related technical issues and supporting value engineering initiatives.

Key Responsibilities

• Design Review and Coordination: Conduct thorough reviews of Mechanical, Electrical, Plumbing, Fire Protection, and Extra Low Voltage (ELV) designs to ensure compliance with project requirements, specifications, and applicable codes, including Saudi Building Code and international standards.
• Technical Documentation: Evaluate Issued for Construction (IFC) drawings, design drawings, specifications, calculations, schedules, and other MEP technical documents to identify discrepancies, missing information, or constructability issues.
• Shop Drawing and Submission Review: Develop, review, and coordinate MEP shop drawings and technical submissions prior to construction, ensuring they meet project specifications and design intent.
• Multidisciplinary Coordination: Perform detailed coordination between MEP systems and architectural, structural, civil, façade, landscape, and specialist systems to resolve clashes and optimize design solutions.
• Technical Queries and RFIs: Prepare, review, and follow up on Requests for Information (RFIs), technical queries, design clarifications, and change requests to ensure timely resolution and alignment with project goals.
• Subcontractor and Supplier Coordination: Review and approve MEP subcontractor and specialist supplier technical submissions, including calculations, drawings, and proposed systems, to ensure compliance with design and project requirements.
• BIM Integration: Collaborate with BIM teams to facilitate clash detection, model coordination, and the implementation of approved technical solutions, ensuring seamless integration across all disciplines.
• Equipment and System Layouts: Review MEP equipment layouts, plant rooms, service routes, shafts, risers, ceiling coordination, and maintenance/access requirements to ensure practicality and compliance with design standards.
• Technical Calculations: Validate and review technical calculations, including equipment sizing, electrical loads, voltage drops, HVAC loads, hydraulic calculations, and other MEP-related computations to ensure accuracy and compliance.
• Constructability Support: Provide technical support to construction teams to resolve MEP design and site-related issues, ensuring smooth project execution and minimizing delays.
• Value Engineering: Participate in value engineering sessions by proposing technically compliant and cost-effective alternatives that enhance project efficiency without compromising quality or safety.
• Design Change Management: Assess the impact of design changes on other disciplines, construction activities, and project requirements, and ensure approved changes are properly incorporated into drawings and BIM models.
• Procurement and Commissioning Support: Assist procurement teams with technical evaluations and clarifications for MEP equipment and materials, and support testing and commissioning teams by providing essential design information and resolving technical issues.
• Documentation and Compliance: Maintain accurate records of technical decisions, design changes, approvals, and correspondence, ensuring full compliance with company procedures, client requirements, and applicable regulations.
• As-Built and Handover Documentation: Review as-built drawings, Operation and Maintenance (O&M) manuals, technical documentation, and final handover submissions to ensure completeness and accuracy.

Qualifications and Skills

To excel in this role, you must possess a Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Building Services Engineering, or a related field. A minimum of 7-10 years of progressive experience in MEP design engineering, with at least 3-5 years in a senior or lead capacity, is essential. You should demonstrate a strong understanding of MEP systems, including HVAC, electrical distribution, lighting, fire protection, plumbing, and ELV systems, as well as proficiency in relevant software tools such as AutoCAD, Revit, and BIM 360.

Additionally, you must have in-depth knowledge of international codes and standards, including but not limited to NFPA, NEC, ASHRAE, and local regulatory requirements. Excellent communication, problem-solving, and leadership skills are critical, as you will be required to collaborate with cross-functional teams, manage technical queries, and drive consensus on design solutions. Proficiency in technical writing, attention to detail, and a commitment to delivering high-quality work are also essential for success in this role.
