Position Overview
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Hazmat Officer / Hazardous Materials Specialist to join our esteemed medical group in Saudi Arabia. This full-time position, offered under a three-year employment contract, is designed for professionals dedicated to ensuring the safe handling, storage, transportation, and disposal of hazardous materials within a healthcare environment. The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in hazardous materials management, with a preference for those with prior experience in the GCC region. Your expertise will be pivotal in maintaining compliance with health, safety, and environmental (HSE) regulations while fostering a culture of safety and preparedness.
Key Responsibilities
As a Hazmat Officer, your core responsibilities will encompass a wide range of critical functions to safeguard personnel, property, and the environment. Your duties will include:
- Hazardous Materials Management: Oversee the safe handling, storage, transportation, and disposal of hazardous materials in accordance with company policies and regulatory requirements.
- Compliance and Safety: Ensure strict adherence to company safety protocols and applicable HSE standards, including local and international regulations governing hazardous materials.
- Risk Assessment: Identify hazardous materials within the facility and conduct thorough risk assessments to mitigate potential hazards and prevent incidents.
- Documentation and Record-Keeping: Maintain accurate and up-to-date documentation, safety records, and inventories of hazardous materials to ensure transparency and regulatory compliance.
- Emergency Response Support: Play a key role in emergency response procedures for chemical and hazardous material incidents, providing guidance and coordination to minimize risks and ensure swift resolution.
- Safety Inspections: Conduct regular safety inspections to identify potential hazards, assess compliance with safety protocols, and recommend corrective actions to enhance workplace safety.
- Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and Equipment Management: Ensure the availability, proper use, and maintenance of PPE and emergency response equipment to protect employees and responders during hazardous material incidents.
- Team Coordination: Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams, including healthcare professionals, facility management, and emergency responders, to address hazardous material incidents and maintain operational continuity.
- Employee Training and Awareness: Conduct safety awareness programs and training sessions to educate employees on the proper handling, storage, and emergency procedures for hazardous materials.
- Incident Reporting: Monitor and report safety violations, near-misses, or incidents involving hazardous materials to management, ensuring timely follow-up and corrective measures.
Requirements
To excel in this role, you must meet the following qualifications and possess the necessary skills:
- Education: A relevant Diploma, Degree, or professional qualification in Hazmat Management, Occupational Health & Safety, Environmental Safety, Emergency Response, or a closely related field.
- Experience: Proven experience as a Hazmat Officer or Hazardous Materials Specialist, with a strong understanding of hazardous material handling and safety procedures.
- Regional Experience: Prior experience working in the GCC region is highly preferred, as it demonstrates familiarity with regional regulations and operational standards.
- Technical Knowledge: In-depth knowledge of hazardous material handling, storage, transportation, and disposal, along with a solid grasp of HSE regulations and best practices.
- Soft Skills: Excellent communication, reporting, and emergency response skills, with the ability to convey complex safety information clearly and effectively to diverse audiences.
- Healthcare Environment: The ability to work effectively within a healthcare or medical facility, understanding the unique challenges and requirements of such an environment.
