Hazmat Officer / Hazardous Materials Specialist

Position Overview

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Hazmat Officer / Hazardous Materials Specialist to join our esteemed medical group in Saudi Arabia. This full-time position offers a three-year contract and is designed for professionals committed to ensuring the safe handling, storage, and disposal of hazardous materials within a healthcare environment. The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in hazardous materials management, preferably with prior experience in the GCC region, and a deep understanding of HSE (Health, Safety, and Environment) compliance standards.

Key Responsibilities

The Hazmat Officer will play a critical role in maintaining the highest standards of safety and compliance within our organization. Your core responsibilities will include:

• Hazardous Materials Management: Oversee the safe handling, storage, transportation, and disposal of hazardous materials in accordance with company policies and regulatory requirements.
• Compliance and Safety: Ensure strict adherence to HSE protocols, local and international hazardous materials regulations, and company safety procedures to mitigate risks and prevent incidents.
• Risk Assessment: Identify hazardous materials present in the facility and conduct thorough risk assessments to evaluate potential hazards and implement appropriate control measures.
• Documentation and Record-Keeping: Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of hazardous materials inventories, safety inspections, incident reports, and compliance documentation.
• Emergency Response: Support and coordinate emergency response procedures during hazardous material incidents, including chemical spills, leaks, or other safety-related emergencies. Ensure readiness of emergency response equipment and PPE (Personal Protective Equipment).
• Safety Inspections: Conduct regular safety inspections to identify potential hazards, unsafe conditions, or violations of safety protocols. Implement corrective actions to address identified risks promptly.
• Training and Awareness: Provide safety training and awareness sessions for employees on proper hazardous materials handling, emergency response protocols, and the use of PPE to foster a culture of safety within the organization.
• Incident Reporting: Maintain a safe working environment by promptly reporting safety violations, near-misses, or incidents to management and regulatory authorities as required.
• Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with healthcare professionals, facility management, and emergency response teams to ensure seamless coordination during hazardous material incidents and routine operations.

Requirements

To qualify for this role, candidates must meet the following criteria:

• Education: A relevant Diploma, Degree, or professional qualification in Hazmat Management, Occupational Health & Safety, Environmental Safety, Emergency Response, or a closely related field.
• Experience: Proven experience as a Hazmat Officer or Hazardous Materials Specialist, with a strong background in hazardous materials handling and safety procedures.
• Regional Experience: Prior experience working in the GCC region is highly preferred, though not mandatory.
• Technical Knowledge: In-depth knowledge of hazardous material handling, storage, transportation, and disposal regulations, as well as emergency response protocols.
• Skills: Excellent communication, reporting, and emergency response skills. Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced healthcare environment and collaborate with diverse teams.

Preferred Candidate Profile

While all qualified candidates are encouraged to apply, preference will be given to those who meet the following criteria:

• Prior work experience in the GCC region.
• Relevant Hazmat or HSE certifications (e.g., HAZWOPER, OSHA, or equivalent).
• Demonstrated ability to manage hazardous materials in a healthcare or medical setting.
