Position Overview

We are seeking a highly organized and detail-oriented Laboratory Registrar (Clinical Pathology) to oversee the administrative and operational functions of our clinical pathology laboratory. In this pivotal role, you will ensure the seamless execution of laboratory procedures, maintain rigorous quality control standards, and uphold the highest levels of safety and compliance. Your responsibilities will encompass a broad spectrum of managerial, technical, and strategic tasks, including equipment maintenance, inventory management, budget preparation, and staff development. This position requires a proactive leader with strong communication skills, a commitment to continuous improvement, and the ability to collaborate effectively with medical and administrative teams to enhance laboratory efficiency and patient care.

Key Accountabilities

  • Quality Assurance and Compliance: Oversee and review the quality control (QC) of all laboratory procedures to ensure accuracy, reliability, and adherence to regulatory standards. Implement and enforce physical, chemical, and biological safety policies and procedures to maintain a secure and compliant laboratory environment.
  • Equipment and Facility Management: Conduct daily, weekly, and monthly maintenance checks on all laboratory equipment and facilities to ensure optimal performance and longevity. Coordinate with vendors to procure necessary supplies and equipment, tracking orders and deliveries to prevent disruptions in operations.
  • Laboratory Operations and Reporting: Review, sign, and comment on laboratory test results, providing recommendations for further investigations when necessary. Ensure high-risk results are promptly communicated to physicians and emergency departments to facilitate timely patient care.
  • Inventory and Budget Management: Monitor laboratory inventory levels, initiate purchasing orders, and manage the delivery of supplies. Prepare and oversee unit budgets, accountability reports, and operating plans, analyzing costs to optimize resource allocation and operational efficiency.
  • Staff Development and Training: Design, implement, and supervise training programs and continuous medical education initiatives for laboratory staff. Conduct annual performance evaluations to foster professional growth and ensure alignment with organizational goals.
  • Proficiency Testing and Corrective Actions: Lead the implementation of proficiency testing programs to assess staff competency and laboratory performance. Identify areas for improvement and take corrective actions to address deficiencies and enhance overall quality.
  • Conflict Resolution and Customer Relations: Establish and maintain mechanisms for resolving complaints from staff, the public, or laboratory clients. Act as a liaison between the laboratory and other departments, addressing concerns and fostering a culture of accountability and continuous improvement.

Work Environment and Schedule

The Laboratory Registrar (Clinical Pathology) will operate in a fully indoor clinical laboratory setting. The position requires a structured schedule of six working days per week, with one designated day off. Working hours are eight net hours per day, aligned with the shift schedule approved by the Head of Department. This role demands a high level of professionalism, adaptability, and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced healthcare environment.

Job Requirements

  • Education: An MD degree in Applied Medical Science (Laboratory Section) with valid registration from the Saudi Commission for Health Specialists is required.
  • Experience: A minimum of two years of practical experience in a clinical laboratory setting following graduation is essential.
  • Technical Skills: Proficiency in office software and health information systems is mandatory to support administrative and operational tasks.
  • Language Proficiency: Fluency in both English and Arabic, both written and spoken, is required to effectively communicate with diverse stakeholders and ensure clear documentation.
