We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented HAZMAT Officer to ensure strict adherence to national and international safety protocols, safeguarding both our staff and patients in environments where hazardous materials are handled.

In this critical role, you will play a pivotal part in maintaining a secure and compliant healthcare environment by overseeing hazardous materials management, training staff, and enforcing regulatory standards. Your expertise will be instrumental in mitigating risks, ensuring proper disposal, and fostering a culture of safety across our facilities.

Key Responsibilities:

As the HAZMAT Officer, your responsibilities will include:

• Policy and Compliance Leadership: Develop, interpret, and implement comprehensive policies, regulations, and procedures governing hazardous materials and waste management, ensuring full alignment with national and international healthcare standards.
• Staff Training and Guidance: Conduct regular training sessions for medical and support staff to ensure they are equipped with the knowledge and skills to handle hazardous materials safely and efficiently.
• Investigation and Reporting: Lead complex investigations into hazardous material incidents, ensuring thorough documentation and adherence to emergency response protocols and legal requirements.
• Inventory and Documentation: Maintain accurate records of all hazardous materials used within the facility, including monthly inventories, Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS), and disposal logs.
• Emergency Response: Act as the primary responder to hazardous material spills, leaks, or releases, coordinating with internal and external teams to ensure swift and compliant containment and cleanup.
• Regulatory Compliance: Monitor and report any violations of environmental protection policies, submitting detailed occurrence variance reports as required.
• Facility Safety: Ensure proper signage is posted to alert staff and patients to potential hazards, and communicate updates on removal or encapsulation projects.
• Decision-Making and Process Improvement: Participate in the evaluation and approval of new hazardous materials introduced to the facility, contributing to risk assessment and safety enhancements.
• Patient-Centered Care Alignment: Support HMG’s patient experience initiatives by upholding the highest standards of safety, respect, and dignity in all operations.
• Cross-Functional Collaboration: Engage with hospital leadership, safety committees, and external regulatory bodies to ensure seamless compliance and continuous improvement in hazardous materials management.

Qualifications:

To excel in this position, you must possess:

• A Science Graduate degree from a recognized institution, complemented by certifications in Hazardous Safety or equivalent qualifications in related fields such as toxicology, epidemiology, or industrial hygiene.
• Three years of relevant professional experience in hazardous waste management, industrial hygiene, or a closely related discipline, with a demonstrated ability to navigate complex regulatory environments.
• Proven expertise in MSDS management, inventory control, and emergency response protocols within healthcare or industrial settings.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret regulations, conduct investigations, and implement corrective actions.
• Excellent communication and training abilities to educate staff and ensure compliance across diverse teams.
