Position Overview
SAIC is seeking a highly skilled Radio Frequency (RF) Engineer to provide expert installation and integration support for C4I system racks and components within the Royal Saudi Naval Forces (RSNF). This critical field-based role is based in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, and Al Jubail, Eastern Province, Saudi Arabia, and requires hands-on technical expertise in operational environments such as naval vessels, command centers, and training facilities. The successful candidate will ensure seamless communication system functionality through meticulous RF cabling, terminations, and operational testing, contributing to the operational readiness of RSNF platforms.
Key Responsibilities
The RF Engineer will play a pivotal role in the following areas:
- System Integration and Testing: Conduct comprehensive RF cabling, terminations, and operational testing during the installation of C4I systems into RSNF vessels, command centers, and training facilities. Ensure seamless integration of communication systems while adhering to strict technical and safety standards.
- Electromagnetic Interference (EMI) Management: Perform pre-installation EMI surveys to establish baseline electromagnetic interference levels and conduct post-installation surveys to assess any changes. Prepare detailed EMI Summary reports, outlining findings and recommending corrective actions to mitigate interference risks.
- Technical Support and Troubleshooting: Collaborate with engineering teams to design, install, and test software and equipment. Identify and resolve system deficiencies, providing innovative solutions to enhance performance and reliability. Review RF quality issues, document findings, and update technical documentation to reflect approved corrective actions.
- Equipment Maintenance and Repair: Maintain, repair, and conduct functional checks on critical communication circuits, including Radio (UHF, VHF, HF, VSAT, UHF SATCOM, LINK-11/16) systems installed on ashore and afloat RSNF platforms. Utilize specialized test equipment and software-controlled diagnostics to isolate and resolve malfunctions, including component-level repairs with ESD handling protocols.
- Soldering and Cable Termination: Perform precision soldering using a 3M workstation or portable soldering iron, and execute RF and fiber optic cable termination and testing to ensure optimal signal integrity and system performance.
- Technical Documentation and Reporting: Provide detailed technical solutions to complex problems, requiring in-depth analysis and evaluation of identifiable factors. Prepare comprehensive reports and documentation to support system modifications, installations, and troubleshooting efforts.
- Stakeholder Engagement: Serve as a technical liaison, representing the organization in addressing challenging technical issues associated with specific projects. Engage in frequent inter-organizational and external customer interactions to ensure alignment and resolve critical concerns.
Qualifications and Requirements
To excel in this role, candidates must meet the following criteria:
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, RF Engineering, or a related technical field, with a minimum of five (5) years of relevant professional experience. Compliance with contractual requirements of the country is mandatory.
- Security Clearance: Must be eligible to obtain and maintain a Secret security clearance. Active Secret clearance is preferred. U.S. citizenship is required.
- Technical Skills and Knowledge:
- Proven experience in system hardware equipment installation, maintenance, and repairs.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Windows (Windows 7/10), Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Visio), AutoCAD, ADSI, and/or CENTRIXS.
- In-depth knowledge of Radio systems (UHF, VHF, HF, VSAT, KVH SATCOM, NTDS/TADIL Data Links), Networking (Cisco IOS), UPS systems (APC, Clary), GPS, CENTRIXS, GCCS-M/J, ADSI, SY-117G, and RF7800 series radios.
- Desired Certifications and Competencies:
- Expertise in component-level repairs, including ESD handling protocols.
- Proficiency in soldering using a 3M workstation or portable soldering iron.
- Familiarity with the configuration and testing of KG-250 and similar RF communication protection devices.
- Experience in fiber optic cable termination and testing.
Work Environment and Travel
This position requires on-site presence in operational environments, including naval vessels and military facilities. The RF Engineer will be expected to travel up to 10% of the time to support project requirements. The role involves shift work, with a primary day shift schedule. Remote work opportunities are not available for this position.
