Design Engineer – Transformer

Position Overview

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Design Engineer – Transformer to join our dynamic engineering team. In this pivotal role, you will be responsible for the design, repair, retrofit, and service-related engineering activities of transformers, ensuring optimal performance, reliability, and compliance with industry and customer standards. Your expertise will be instrumental in reverse engineering failed transformers, conducting fault analysis, and providing technical support for repair and service projects. This position requires a strong background in transformer design principles, protection systems, and fault diagnosis, along with proficiency in industry-leading software tools and compliance with international standards.

Key Responsibilities

• Reverse Engineering and Refurbishment: Conduct reverse engineering of failed transformers to facilitate rewinding and refurbishment, ensuring restored functionality and extended operational life.
• Design and Technical Support: Provide expert design and technical support for transformer repair, retrofit, and service projects, aligning with customer requirements and industry best practices.
• Engineering Documentation: Prepare, review, and maintain comprehensive engineering drawings, design documents, and Bill of Materials (BOMs) in SAP to ensure accuracy and traceability.
• Fault Analysis and Inspection: Perform detailed transformer fault analysis and review inspection/failure reports to identify root causes and recommend corrective actions.
• Protection and Control Circuits: Analyze transformer protection and control circuits to ensure system reliability and compliance with safety standards.
• Technical Proposals and Tender Support: Review and prepare technical proposals, tender documents, and cost sheets to support business development and client engagement efforts.
• Compliance and Documentation: Maintain ISO documentation and work order records, ensuring adherence to ARAMCO, SEC, NG, and other applicable industry standards.
• Cross-Functional Coordination: Collaborate with internal departments, customers, and suppliers to address technical challenges and ensure seamless project execution.
• Troubleshooting Support: Provide troubleshooting assistance for transformer manufacturing, testing, and service activities to resolve operational issues efficiently.

Qualifications and Experience

To qualify for this role, candidates must possess the following:

• A Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited institution.
• 8-10 years of hands-on experience in transformer design, service, repair, retrofit, manufacturing, or testing within a relevant industry environment.
• In-depth knowledge of transformer design principles, protection systems, and fault diagnosis to ensure robust and reliable solutions.
• Proficiency in AutoCAD, ProE (Creo), and SAP BOM management to create and manage engineering documentation effectively.
• Familiarity with ARAMCO, SEC, and National Grid standards to ensure compliance with regional and international regulatory requirements.
• Preferred knowledge of Oil Dissolved Gas Analysis (DGA) for advanced fault detection and condition monitoring.

Preferred Software Knowledge

• Transformer Short Circuit Forces Analysis for evaluating mechanical stress and structural integrity.
• Transformer Transient (TT) for analyzing transient phenomena and system stability.
• TMPT (Temperature Rise Calculation) for assessing thermal performance and load capacity.
• BETA (Dielectric Withstand Analysis) for evaluating insulation integrity and dielectric strength.
