About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Backend Engineer, Core APIs to join a fully remote engineering team dedicated to developing cutting-edge technology that empowers leading organizations to detect and prevent online fraud. Key Responsibilities

As a Backend Engineer, Core APIs, you will be accountable for a wide range of technical and collaborative tasks, including:

• System Design and Development: Architect, develop, and optimize scalable backend systems that facilitate real-time data processing and high-performance web services, ensuring seamless integration with fraud detection capabilities.
• API and Microservices Engineering: Build, maintain, and enhance APIs, microservices, and backend infrastructure with an unwavering focus on reliability, scalability, and performance to meet the demands of enterprise-level clients.
• Technology Collaboration: Develop primarily using Go and/or Node.js while collaborating across multiple services and technologies to deliver cohesive and efficient backend solutions.
• Cross-Functional Partnerships: Work closely with engineering teams to integrate backend components, ensuring systems operate at peak efficiency and scale to support growing user demands.
• Problem Solving and Innovation: Investigate complex technical challenges through in-depth technical analysis, root-cause identification, hypothesis formulation, experimentation, and data-driven evaluation to drive meaningful improvements.
• Performance Optimization: Conduct rigorous performance tuning, debugging, testing, and reliability enhancements to maintain the integrity and efficiency of backend systems.

• End-to-End Ownership: Take full ownership of engineering projects from initial concept and investigation through implementation, deployment, and continuous iteration to ensure long-term success.
• On-Call Support: Participate in a shared on-call rotation, adhering to pre-communicated schedules and ensuring balanced coverage to maintain system reliability and uptime.
• Mentorship and Leadership: Mentor junior developers and support the technical and professional development of teammates, fostering a collaborative and high-performing engineering environment.

Requirements and Qualifications

To excel in this role, you will bring the following qualifications and experiences to the table:

• Professional Experience: A minimum of 2 years of professional backend software development experience, with a proven track record of building production-grade systems.
• Technical Proficiency: Hands-on experience with Go and/or Node.js, with a strong desire to deepen expertise in both technologies and expand your skill set across the backend ecosystem.
• System Architecture: Demonstrated experience in designing, developing, and maintaining scalable backend systems, APIs, real-time data-processing services, and microservice architectures.
• Database Expertise: A solid understanding of SQL and practical experience working with databases or data stores such as DynamoDB, Redis, or Elasticsearch to ensure efficient data management and retrieval.
• Software Engineering Fundamentals: Strong command of software engineering principles and development tools, including Git, IDEs, shell scripting, and CI/CD workflows, to streamline development and deployment processes.
• Analytical Skills: The ability to independently investigate complex technical problems, analyze system behavior, formulate hypotheses, conduct experiments, and translate findings into actionable improvements.
• Communication and Collaboration: Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English, enabling effective collaboration with a globally distributed and asynchronous team.
• Independence and Teamwork: The capacity to work autonomously while actively contributing to team decisions, technical discussions, and shared engineering objectives to drive collective success.
• Education and Experience: A Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Engineering, or a related field is advantageous, though equivalent professional experience will also be considered.
• Infrastructure as Code: Familiarity with infrastructure-as-code tools such as Terraform or AWS CloudFormation is a plus, enabling efficient and scalable infrastructure management.
• Additional Skills: Experience with TypeScript, Express, ClickHouse, dbt, or similar technologies is beneficial for expanding your technical toolkit and contributing to diverse projects.
