Senior Technical Office Mechanical Engineer

Position Overview

Redsand is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Technical Office Mechanical Engineer to join our expanding Technical Office team. This pivotal role will lead technical office activities across a diverse portfolio of commercial, mixed-use, and infrastructure projects. The successful candidate will be responsible for delivering high-quality engineering solutions, ensuring strict compliance with project specifications and regulatory requirements, and fostering seamless coordination across all disciplines. By providing advanced technical guidance to site teams, this position will ensure that design intent is fully realized throughout project execution.

Key Responsibilities

The Senior Technical Office Mechanical Engineer will play a critical role in the following areas:

• Technical Review and Approval: Thoroughly review and approve mechanical shop drawings, including HVAC systems, chilled water networks, ventilation, plumbing, drainage, firefighting, and LPG installations. Ensure all submissions align with Issued for Construction (IFC) drawings and project specifications.
• Submittal Preparation and Validation: Develop and validate comprehensive mechanical technical submittals, including equipment schedules, ESP calculations, pump head calculations, hydraulic calculations, and firefighting hydraulic network analysis to meet project and regulatory standards.
• Design Verification and Coordination: Conduct meticulous design verification to identify gaps, clashes, and inconsistencies in consultant and contractor submissions. Collaborate closely with BIM teams to maintain model accuracy, resolve clashes, and ensure alignment with the BIM Execution Plan (BEP) requirements.
• RFI Management: Issue and manage Requests for Information (RFIs) efficiently, facilitating timely resolutions with consultants, contractors, and stakeholders to mitigate project delays.
• Technical Support and Troubleshooting: Provide advanced technical support to site teams, addressing complex installation challenges and ensuring adherence to design intent and industry best practices.
• Procurement and Vendor Evaluation: Review procurement packages, assess vendor technical offers, and participate in negotiations to secure optimal solutions that meet project requirements and budget constraints.
• Regulatory Compliance: Ensure all mechanical materials and systems comply with international standards (SBC, ASHRAE, NFPA, IPC) and local authority regulations, including Civil Defense, Water Authority, and Municipality requirements.
• Documentation and Reporting: Prepare detailed method statements, installation details, and technical reports for management and client presentations, ensuring clarity and accuracy in all communications.
• Multidisciplinary Coordination: Represent the mechanical scope in cross-functional coordination meetings involving MEP, Civil, and Architectural disciplines to foster collaboration and alignment.
• Testing and Commissioning Support: Assist in the preparation of testing and commissioning documentation, checklists, and readiness reviews for HVAC, plumbing, and firefighting systems to ensure seamless project handover.
• Mentorship and Leadership: Mentor junior technical office engineers, fostering their professional growth and ensuring the team upholds the highest standards of technical excellence.

Qualifications and Requirements

To excel in this role, candidates must meet the following criteria:

• Education: Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from an accredited institution.
• Experience: Minimum of 8–12 years of progressive technical office experience, with a strong background in commercial, mixed-use, or infrastructure projects.
• Technical Knowledge: In-depth understanding of SBC, ASHRAE, NFPA, and IPC standards, along with hands-on experience in mechanical system design and analysis.
• Software Proficiency: Advanced skills in AutoCAD, Revit, Navisworks, and mechanical calculation software such as HAP, Elite Fire, and PipeFlow.
• Leadership and Communication: Proven ability to lead teams, communicate technical concepts effectively, and coordinate across multiple stakeholders.
