Key Responsibilities

As a Senior Backend Engineer, your core duties will include:

• System Design and Development: Architect, develop, and maintain scalable backend services and APIs using Java and Spring Boot within a microservices framework. Lead the end-to-end delivery of complex features, from initial technical design through to production deployment.
• Database and Integration Optimization: Design and optimize database interactions, ensuring efficient integrations and seamless inter-service communication to support high-performance applications.
• Event-Driven Architecture: Build and operate robust event-driven workflows using Kafka and enterprise messaging systems to enable real-time data processing and system responsiveness.
• Security and Compliance: Implement secure coding practices, including robust authentication, authorization mechanisms, encryption protocols, and secure handling of sensitive data to meet stringent security and compliance requirements.
• Code Quality and Engineering Standards: Conduct thorough code reviews, enforce engineering best practices, and uphold high standards of code quality and maintainability across the team.
• Production Support and Troubleshooting: Diagnose and resolve complex production issues, implementing durable fixes to minimize downtime and enhance system reliability.
• Technical Leadership: Contribute to critical technical design decisions and shape the application architecture to align with evolving business and technical needs.
• DevOps and Observability: Enhance CI/CD pipelines, automated testing frameworks, deployment processes, and observability tools on OpenShift/Kubernetes to streamline operations and improve deployment efficiency.
• Technical Debt Management: Proactively identify and address technical debt, driving initiatives to improve system design, code quality, and long-term maintainability.
• Mentorship and Knowledge Sharing: Mentor junior engineers, foster a culture of collaboration, and share technical expertise across the engineering chapter to elevate team capabilities.

Qualifications and Experience

To excel in this role, you should possess the following qualifications and experience:

• A Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field from an accredited institution.
• A minimum of 4 years of hands-on backend engineering experience, with a proven track record in designing and delivering high-quality software solutions.
• Strong proficiency in Java, Spring Boot, REST API design, SQL, and Git, with the ability to apply these technologies effectively in a production environment.
• Experience with containers, CI/CD pipelines, and distributed systems is highly desirable and will be considered a significant advantage.
• Prior experience in payments or regulated financial services is preferred, though not mandatory, and will be viewed as a valuable asset.
