Senior Sustainability Engineer

Position Overview

We are seeking a highly experienced and motivated Senior Sustainability Engineer to join our dynamic team. In this pivotal role, you will leverage your expertise in sustainable building design, energy efficiency, and low-carbon solutions to drive impactful sustainability initiatives for our clients. With a minimum of five years of specialized experience in sustainability within the built environment, you will play a critical role in shaping the future of green construction and decarbonization strategies. Your technical proficiency in LEED/Mostadam frameworks, energy modeling, and sustainability assessments will be instrumental in delivering innovative solutions that align with both environmental and business objectives.

Key Responsibilities

The Senior Sustainability Engineer will be responsible for providing strategic guidance and practical solutions to enhance sustainability performance across a diverse portfolio of projects. Your core duties will include:

• Strategic Sustainability Consultation: Offer expert advice on low-energy, low-carbon, and sustainable building design solutions, ensuring alignment with client goals and regulatory requirements.
• Stakeholder Collaboration: Engage with key client stakeholders to develop and implement tailored sustainability strategies, fostering long-term partnerships and driving organizational change.
• Risk Assessment and Mitigation: Identify sustainability risks, recommend proactive mitigation measures, and uncover opportunities to elevate sustainability credentials and performance.
• Certification and Compliance Support: Conduct pre-assessments to determine feasibility for targeted building ratings (e.g., LEED, Mostadam) and provide actionable design recommendations. Prepare comprehensive gap analyses and improvement plans when certification targets are not immediately achievable.
• Design Integration and Monitoring: Oversee the integration of sustainability objectives throughout the design process, ensuring alignment with project requirements, client expectations, and regulatory standards.
• Technical Documentation and Reporting: Develop feasibility studies for low- and zero-carbon technologies, energy statements, and supporting documentation for planning and authority approvals. Prepare technical reports, client portfolios, bids, and proposals to support project delivery.
• Data Analysis and Modeling: Utilize advanced tools such as CAD, GIS, and sustainability modeling software to analyze qualitative and quantitative data, supporting engineering and sustainability solutions. Maintain accurate and up-to-date building assessment information.
• Cross-Functional Support: Provide technical and sustainability expertise to multidisciplinary teams, including engineers, architects, and construction professionals, to ensure cohesive project execution.
• Policy and Compliance Adherence: Stay informed of relevant Quality, Environmental, Safety, and Occupational Health policies, manuals, and procedures within Hill International, ensuring full compliance throughout project delivery.

Qualifications and Experience

To excel in this role, you must possess the following qualifications and experience:

• Education: Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Sustainability, Environmental Science, Architecture, or a related field. A Master’s degree and LEED certification are highly desirable.
• Professional Experience: Minimum of 12 years of relevant experience, with at least five years dedicated to sustainability, preferably within the buildings, construction, or engineering sectors.
• Technical Expertise: In-depth knowledge of green-building principles, LEED/Mostadam requirements, energy efficiency, water conservation, and sustainable materials. Proficiency in decarbonization strategies, low-carbon building design, renewable energy integration, and the evaluation of embodied and operational carbon reduction techniques.
• Analytical and Problem-Solving Skills: Exceptional ability to review designs, assess building systems, and evaluate sustainable products and materials. Strong analytical capabilities to interpret data and develop actionable insights.
• Communication and Collaboration: Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively with stakeholders across diverse disciplines. Proven track record in stakeholder management and project coordination.
• Technical Proficiency: Competency in CAD, GIS, sustainability modeling tools, and data analysis software. Strong technical report writing and documentation skills.
