Position Overview

We are seeking a highly motivated and skilled Telemedicine Gastroenterology Registrar to join our dynamic healthcare team. This role is designed for a physician in advanced training who specializes in delivering expert care for patients with gastrointestinal and hepatology disorders through innovative virtual platforms. The position combines advanced gastroenterology clinical expertise with cutting-edge digital health technologies to provide accessible, efficient, and patient-centered care. The Registrar will operate under the supervision of consultant gastroenterologists while ensuring compliance with the Saudi Commission for Health Specialties (SCFHS), telemedicine regulations, and clinical governance standards.

Key Responsibilities

The Telemedicine Gastroenterology Registrar will be responsible for the following core functions:

  • Virtual Patient Consultations and Clinical Management:
    • Assess, diagnose, and manage a wide range of gastrointestinal and hepatology conditions through secure telehealth platforms, including video consultations, phone calls, and secure messaging.
    • Address common GI conditions such as GERD, dyspepsia, IBS, constipation, diarrhea, inflammatory bowel disease (stable follow-up), fatty liver disease, hepatitis follow-up, GI-related anemia, and functional GI disorders.
    • Review laboratory results and imaging remotely, adjusting management plans as necessary to optimize patient outcomes.
    • Identify red flags that necessitate urgent in-person assessment or hospital referral, ensuring timely and appropriate escalation of care.
    • Develop individualized treatment and monitoring plans in collaboration with consultant gastroenterologists.
    • Maintain accurate, complete, and timely documentation in the electronic medical record (EMR) system.
    • Participate in telemedicine-driven GI care pathways, including GERD clinics, IBS pathways, and liver disease follow-up programs.
  • Professional Development and Teaching:
    • Stay abreast of the latest advancements in gastroenterology, hepatology, and digital health through continuous medical education (CME), workshops, and conferences.
    • Engage in case discussions and academic activities to enhance clinical knowledge and contribute to the broader medical community.
    • Support the teaching and supervision of junior doctors and medical trainees, fostering a culture of learning and professional growth.
  • Quality Assurance, Patient Safety, and Compliance:
    • Adhere to internal medicine and gastroenterology clinical guidelines, telemedicine regulations, and ethical standards to ensure the highest quality of care.
    • Implement safe prescribing practices, including dose adjustments for patients with liver impairment, and monitor medication side effects and warning signs.
    • Report patient safety concerns and adverse events to the Quality Department in a timely manner.
    • Participate in virtual audits, quality improvement initiatives, and clinical reviews to enhance service delivery and patient outcomes.
  • Telehealth Platform Proficiency and Digital Care Delivery:
    • Leverage telemedicine platforms for video consultations, secure messaging, and lab result reviews to deliver seamless virtual care.
    • Maintain accurate, complete, and confidential digital patient records in compliance with data protection regulations.
    • Participate in telehealth training programs and collaborate with IT support teams to optimize digital care delivery systems.
  • Patient Experience and Satisfaction:
    • Communicate diagnoses, management plans, and treatment options clearly, empathetically, and in a patient-friendly manner.
    • Provide education on disease progression, treatment options, and red-flag symptoms to empower patients in managing their health.
    • Address patient concerns and follow-up questions promptly through telehealth channels to ensure continuity of care.
    • Encourage adherence to treatment plans and follow-up schedules to promote positive health outcomes.
  • Multidisciplinary and Consultant Collaboration:
    • Work closely with consultant gastroenterologists, multidisciplinary teams, and allied health professionals to deliver comprehensive care.
    • Participate in multidisciplinary meetings and case conferences to discuss complex patient scenarios and develop coordinated care plans.

Qualifications and Skills

To excel in this role, candidates must meet the following requirements:

  • Hold a Medical Degree (MBBS or equivalent) from an accredited institution.
  • Have completed a residency in Internal Medicine from an accredited program.
  • Possess fellowship training in Gastroenterology from an accredited program.
  • Be classified and registered as a Registrar – Gastroenterology by the Saudi Commission for Health Specialties (SCFHS).
  • Demonstrate strong clinical judgment and expertise in gastroenterology and hepatology.
  • Have experience or a strong interest in telemedicine-based care and digital health technologies.
  • Proficiency in EMR systems and telehealth platforms is essential.
  • Exhibit excellent communication, analytical, and organizational skills to deliver high-quality patient care.
  • Show a commitment to patient safety, quality improvement, and continuous professional development.

Education

Candidates must hold a degree in Medicine & Surgery from a recognized institution.
