Key Responsibilities

As a Shift Engineer, your primary responsibility will be to oversee and maintain the hotel’s engineering systems during your assigned shift, ensuring optimal performance and reliability. Your duties will include:

• System Monitoring and Maintenance: Continuously monitor electrical, mechanical, HVAC, plumbing, and other critical building systems to identify and address any operational irregularities. Conduct regular inspections of plant rooms, equipment, public areas, guest rooms, and back-of-house facilities to ensure compliance with safety and quality standards.
• Responsive Maintenance Support: Respond promptly to maintenance requests, equipment breakdowns, and urgent technical issues, providing immediate solutions to minimize disruptions to hotel operations and guest experiences. Perform basic troubleshooting and coordinate corrective maintenance to restore functionality efficiently.
• Preventive Maintenance Execution: Support and execute scheduled preventive maintenance tasks to enhance the longevity and efficiency of hotel systems. Ensure all maintenance activities are documented accurately and in accordance with established procedures.
• Safety and Compliance: Adhere to all engineering safety protocols, health, safety, and environmental (HSE) regulations, and hotel policies. Report any abnormal conditions, equipment failures, or safety concerns to the Engineering Management team for immediate resolution.
• Cross-Departmental Collaboration: Work closely with other hotel departments, including housekeeping, front desk, and food and beverage, to address maintenance needs and operational requirements. Ensure seamless communication to support the hotel’s overall functionality.
• Guest Experience Focus: Handle guest-related engineering issues with professionalism and urgency, ensuring minimal disruption to their stay. Prioritize guest comfort and satisfaction while maintaining the hotel’s technical standards.
• Record Keeping and Reporting: Maintain detailed records of maintenance activities, inspections, breakdowns, and shift handovers. Support energy and utility monitoring initiatives by reporting unusual consumption patterns or equipment performance to optimize efficiency.
• Contractor Coordination: Assist external contractors and service providers during maintenance, inspections, and technical works, ensuring projects are completed on time and within budget.
• Shift Handover and Communication: Conduct thorough shift handovers, communicating all pending issues, critical matters, and pending tasks to the incoming shift to ensure continuity of operations.
• Additional Duties: Perform any other engineering-related tasks as assigned by the Chief Engineer or Engineering Management to support the hotel’s operational goals.

Qualifications and Requirements

• Education: Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field. Fresh graduates with a strong academic background are encouraged to apply.
• Experience: 0–2 years of relevant experience in engineering, maintenance, or a related technical field is preferred, though exceptional entry-level candidates will be considered.
• Technical Knowledge: Solid understanding of electrical, mechanical, HVAC, plumbing, and building systems. Familiarity with preventive and corrective maintenance practices is essential.
• Problem-Solving Skills: Ability to troubleshoot technical issues, identify equipment faults, and implement effective solutions under pressure.
• Safety and Compliance: Strong knowledge of engineering safety procedures and HSE requirements to ensure a secure working environment.
• Language and Communication: Proficiency in English, both written and spoken, is required. Proficiency in Arabic is considered an advantage.
• Technical Proficiency: Competency in Microsoft Office and basic computer skills to maintain records and generate reports.
• Soft Skills: Excellent communication, teamwork, and problem-solving abilities. Highly motivated, responsible, and eager to learn and grow within the hospitality engineering sector.
• Flexibility: Willingness to work shifts, weekends, public holidays, and night shifts to ensure 24/7 coverage and operational excellence.
