Position Overview

We are seeking a dedicated and forward-thinking Registrar - Nephrology to join our dynamic healthcare team. This role is designed for a physician in specialty training who is passionate about delivering exceptional nephrology care through innovative virtual platforms. The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in assessing, diagnosing, and managing acute and chronic kidney diseases, ensuring patient-centered, evidence-based care under the guidance of experienced consultants. Key Responsibilities

Virtual Patient Consultations and Clinical Management

The Registrar - Nephrology will conduct comprehensive virtual consultations via video and phone, focusing on the following areas:

  • Assessing and managing chronic kidney disease (CKD), hypertension, electrolyte disorders, proteinuria, haematuria, nephrolithiasis, and post-AKI follow-up cases;
  • Reviewing laboratory results and imaging remotely to adjust management plans as needed;
  • Identifying critical red flags that necessitate urgent in-person assessment or hospital referral;
  • Developing individualized treatment and monitoring plans in close collaboration with supervising consultants;
  • Ensuring meticulous documentation in the electronic medical record (EMR) system;
  • Scheduling virtual follow-ups and coordinating seamless care transitions with primary care providers.

Chronic Disease Management and Continuity of Care

This role is instrumental in monitoring and supporting patients with chronic kidney conditions through virtual platforms. Responsibilities include:

  • Tracking CKD progression using laboratory trends and patient-reported outcomes;
  • Providing virtual counseling on lifestyle modifications, dietary adjustments, fluid balance, and medication adherence;
  • Managing anemia of CKD, CKD-MBD, and blood pressure remotely;
  • Collaborating with dietitians and allied health professionals via telehealth to deliver integrated care;
  • Educating patients on dialysis preparation and facilitating timely referrals when clinically indicated.

Quality Assurance, Patient Safety, and Compliance

The Registrar - Nephrology will uphold the highest standards of clinical excellence and patient safety by:

  • Adhering to nephrology clinical guidelines, telemedicine regulations, and ethical standards;
  • Ensuring safe prescribing practices, including dose adjustments for patients with renal impairment;
  • Monitoring and counseling patients on medication side effects and warning signs;
  • Reporting patient safety concerns and adverse events to the Quality Department;
  • Participating in virtual audits, quality improvement initiatives, and clinical reviews to enhance care delivery.

Telehealth Proficiency and Digital Care Delivery

Proficiency in telehealth technologies is essential for this role. The ideal candidate will:

  • Utilize telemedicine platforms for video consultations, secure messaging, and lab result reviews;
  • Maintain accurate, complete, and confidential digital patient records;
  • Optimize the use of remote monitoring data, such as home blood pressure readings;
  • Engage in ongoing telehealth training and collaborate with IT support to enhance system functionality.

Patient Experience and Satisfaction

Delivering a superior patient experience is a cornerstone of this position. The Registrar - Nephrology will:

  • Communicate diagnoses and management plans with clarity, empathy, and professionalism;
  • Educate patients on kidney disease progression, treatment options, and red-flag symptoms;
  • Address patient concerns and follow-up questions promptly through telehealth channels;
  • Encourage adherence to treatment plans and follow-up schedules to optimize health outcomes.

Multidisciplinary Collaboration and Professional Development

This role fosters a collaborative environment where teamwork and continuous learning are prioritized. Responsibilities include:

  • Collaborating virtually with nephrology consultants for case discussions and escalation of care;
  • Coordinating care with primary care physicians, nurses, pharmacists, and dietitians;
  • Participating in multidisciplinary virtual meetings and care planning sessions;
  • Maintaining up-to-date knowledge in nephrology through attendance at CME, workshops, and conferences;
  • Engaging in case discussions and academic activities to contribute to the advancement of nephrology care;

Qualifications and Skills

To excel in this role, candidates must meet the following criteria:

  • Hold a medical degree (MBBS or equivalent) from an accredited institution;
  • Have completed an Internal Medicine residency from an accredited program;
  • Be in the process of completing or have completed a Nephrology training/fellowship;
  • Possess Saudi Commission for Health Specialties (SCFHS) classification and registration as Registrar Nephrology;
  • Demonstrate strong clinical judgment with expertise in CKD and renal pharmacology;
  • Show a keen interest or experience in telemedicine-based care;
  • Exhibit proficiency in EMR systems and telehealth platforms;
  • Possess excellent communication, analytical, and organizational skills;
