Laboratory Manager

Position Overview

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Laboratory Manager to oversee the operations of our clinical laboratory. In this pivotal role, you will be responsible for ensuring the highest standards of accuracy, efficiency, and compliance in all laboratory processes. The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in clinical laboratory sciences, coupled with proven leadership experience in managing teams, implementing quality assurance programs, and driving operational excellence. Key Responsibilities

• Laboratory Operations Management: Oversee day-to-day laboratory operations, ensuring adherence to regulatory standards, including CBAHI accreditation, and maintaining compliance with CAP or JCI requirements. Lead the preparation and submission of all necessary documentation for accreditation processes.
• Quality Assurance & Control: Develop, implement, and maintain a robust Quality Assurance/Quality Control (QA/QC) program. Conduct proficiency testing, document corrective actions, and ensure continuous improvement in laboratory processes to meet or exceed industry standards.
• Technical Leadership: Provide expertise in evaluating, validating, and implementing new laboratory methods, instruments, and vendors. Stay abreast of advancements in laboratory technology to enhance efficiency and diagnostic accuracy.
• Laboratory Information Systems (LIS): Manage and optimize the use of Laboratory Information Systems for data analysis, reporting, and integration. Ensure seamless data flow and accurate result dissemination to healthcare providers and patients.
• Compliance & Safety: Enforce strict adherence to critical/panic value protocols, result verification standards, and safety regulations. Implement and monitor infection control measures to safeguard staff and patients.
• Financial & Resource Management: Develop and oversee the laboratory budget, including revenue forecasting, cost control, and capital expenditure planning. Optimize resource allocation to maximize operational efficiency and service delivery.
• Team Leadership & Development: Lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing laboratory team through competency assessments, in-service training programs, and performance evaluations. Foster a culture of continuous professional development and accountability.
  • Staff Scheduling & Leave Planning: Design and manage staff schedules, ensuring adequate coverage and alignment with operational demands. Plan for leave and staffing contingencies to maintain uninterrupted service.
  • Conflict Resolution: Address patient, client, and staff complaints professionally and efficiently. Implement corrective measures to resolve issues and improve overall satisfaction.
• Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with healthcare providers, administrative staff, and external stakeholders to ensure seamless integration of laboratory services within the broader healthcare ecosystem. Participate in interdisciplinary committees and quality improvement initiatives.

Qualifications & Experience

• Education: Bachelor’s degree in Medical Laboratory Sciences, Clinical Laboratory Sciences, or a related field. A Master’s degree or MBA is considered a significant advantage.
• Certification & Registration: Valid registration/classification as a Laboratory Specialist with the Saudi Commission for Health Specialties (SCFHS).
• Professional Experience:
  • Minimum of 7 years of experience in a clinical laboratory setting, with at least 3 years in a supervisory or managerial role.
  • Proven track record in preparing laboratories for CBAHI accreditation, with exposure to CAP or JCI standards highly preferred.
  • Hands-on experience across multiple laboratory disciplines, including Chemistry, Hematology, Microbiology, and Blood Bank.
• Technical Skills:
  • Proficiency in Laboratory Information Systems (LIS) and data analysis tools.
  • Strong understanding of QA/QC programs, proficiency testing, and corrective action documentation.
  • Ability to evaluate and validate new laboratory methods, instruments, and vendors.
  • Experience in laboratory budgeting, revenue management, and cost control.
