Database Administrator (DBA)

Position Overview

We are looking for a highly skilled and proactive Database Administrator (DBA) with extensive experience in managing PostgreSQL and MySQL database environments. The ideal candidate will play a pivotal role in ensuring the reliability, security, and optimal performance of our database infrastructure. This position demands a deep understanding of database administration, performance tuning, high availability, and disaster recovery, along with a commitment to continuous improvement and operational excellence. The DBA will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams to support critical business applications and maintain seamless database operations.

Key Responsibilities

The Database Administrator will be responsible for a wide range of duties, including:

• Database Administration: Installing, configuring, migrating, upgrading, and patching PostgreSQL and MySQL databases. Ensuring database availability, reliability, and security across production and non-production environments. Developing and enforcing database standards, policies, and operational procedures to maintain consistency and efficiency.
• Performance Optimization: Proactively monitoring database performance through regular health checks and tuning. Analyzing and optimizing SQL queries, indexes, and database configurations to enhance efficiency. Identifying performance bottlenecks and implementing corrective measures to ensure optimal system performance. Conducting capacity planning and resource utilization analysis to support scalability and future growth.
• Backup, Recovery, and High Availability: Designing and managing robust backup and recovery strategies to safeguard critical data. Configuring and maintaining replication solutions and high-availability architectures to minimize downtime. Supporting disaster recovery planning, testing, and execution to ensure business continuity. Meeting and documenting recovery objectives (RPO/RTO) to align with organizational requirements.
• Production Support: Investigating and resolving database-related incidents and service disruptions with a focus on root cause analysis (RCA). Implementing preventive measures to mitigate recurring issues. Participating in 24/7 on-call support and incident management to ensure rapid response and resolution. Collaborating with application teams during deployments, database releases, and upgrades to ensure smooth transitions.
• Security and Compliance: Managing database access controls, user privileges, and authentication mechanisms to protect sensitive data. Implementing database security best practices and addressing vulnerabilities to mitigate risks. Ensuring compliance with organizational security policies and governance standards. Monitoring audit logs and database activities to detect and prevent unauthorized access.
• Documentation and Continuous Improvement: Maintaining comprehensive technical documentation, runbooks, and standard operating procedures for database operations. Developing automation scripts to streamline routine tasks and improve operational efficiency. Recommending and implementing database optimization and modernization initiatives to enhance performance and scalability. Collaborating with infrastructure, application, and cloud teams to align database strategies with business objectives.

Required Technical Skills

The successful candidate will possess the following technical competencies:

• Strong hands-on experience in administering and optimizing PostgreSQL databases.
• Good experience in managing MySQL databases, including configuration and troubleshooting.
• Expertise in database replication technologies to ensure data redundancy and high availability.
• In-depth knowledge of backup, recovery, and disaster recovery methodologies to protect critical data.
• Proven ability in performance tuning, query optimization, and troubleshooting to enhance database efficiency.
• Proficiency in Linux administration and shell scripting to automate and manage database operations.
• Experience with database monitoring and alerting tools to proactively identify and resolve issues.
• Knowledge of database security best practices to safeguard sensitive information and ensure compliance.
• Familiarity with High Availability (HA) and clustering solutions to support uninterrupted operations.
• Experience supporting production-critical database environments with a focus on reliability and uptime.

Education and Qualifications

Applicants should meet the following educational and professional requirements:

• Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Software Engineering, or a related field.
