Position Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and highly skilled Outpatient Pharmacist to join our dynamic healthcare team. In this critical role, you will be responsible for ensuring the safe, accurate, and efficient dispensing of medications prescribed by licensed physicians. Your expertise will play a pivotal role in maintaining the highest standards of patient care, safety, and satisfaction while adhering to regulatory guidelines and organizational policies. As an integral member of our pharmacy team, you will contribute to seamless workflows, patient education, and continuous improvement initiatives within a person-centered care environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Medication Verification and Dispensing:
- Review, interpret, and verify physician medication orders, ensuring accuracy in dosage, duration, and clinical appropriateness.
- Identify and resolve potential drug-to-drug interactions, allergies, or contraindications through meticulous assessment.
- Communicate with prescribing physicians to clarify any ambiguities or concerns before dispensing medications.
- Prepare medications with precision, perform double-checking procedures, and ensure proper labeling to guarantee patient safety.
- Calculate drug quantities based on patient-specific factors such as body weight and age to ensure appropriate dosing.
- Enter prescription details into the Computerized Physician Order Entry (CPOE) system within the Fakeeh Care Health Information System (HIS) prior to dispensing.
- Patient Care and Education:
- Provide comprehensive counseling to patients and caregivers on medication usage, storage, potential side effects, and drug interactions.
- Educate patients and families about health conditions, treatment plans, and preventive measures to promote optimal health outcomes.
- Ensure prompt patient notification to dispensing windows to minimize wait times and enhance the overall patient experience.
- Inventory and Compliance Management:
- Maintain strict inventory control, secure storage of narcotics and controlled substances, and accurate record-keeping in compliance with regulatory requirements.
- Identify and manage nearly expired medications in accordance with Fakeeh Care policies, ensuring no expired medications are dispensed.
- Accurately charge patients for dispensed medications and ensure compliance with billing procedures.
- Demonstrate proficiency in handling hazardous materials, including proper storage, usage, and first aid measures in case of accidental exposure.
- Quality and Safety Assurance:
- Adhere to medication safety protocols, infection prevention, and control standards during medication preparation and handling.
- Utilize formulary knowledge to identify generic substitutions, apply prescription quantity limitations, and ensure cost-effective medication management.
- Report medication errors, adverse drug reactions (ADRs), and near-miss incidents through the Outpatient Variance Reporting (OVR) system.
- Participate in continuous education programs to stay current with pharmacy best practices, high-risk medications, and emerging trends in pharmaceutical care.
- Professional Development and Collaboration:
- Contribute to the training and orientation of new pharmacists, students, and trainees to foster a culture of excellence and knowledge sharing.
- Stay informed about over-the-counter (OTC) medications and their appropriate use in patient care.
- Collaborate with the pharmacy supervisor and interdisciplinary healthcare teams to support continuous improvement initiatives.
- Organizational Compliance and Ethics:

- Adhere to all safety protocols, report job-related safety concerns, and participate in cybersecurity awareness initiatives to protect organizational and patient data.

- Complete mandatory education and training programs as required, ensuring compliance with regional health regulations and organizational standards.
Qualifications and Requirements
- Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Pharmacy from an accredited institution.
- Experience: 0 to 2 years of experience in a hospital or outpatient pharmacy setting.
- Technical Skills: Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel, with the ability to navigate electronic health record (EHR) systems and pharmacy software.
- Language Proficiency: Strong oral and written communication skills in English.
- Licensure: Valid license to practice pharmacy as per regional health regulatory requirements.
- Personal Attributes: Attention to detail, strong analytical skills, commitment to patient safety, and the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment.
