Testing & Commissioning Engineer (HV Substations)

Position Overview

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Testing & Commissioning Engineer to oversee the implementation and validation of high-voltage (HV) and extra-high-voltage (EHV) substations, ranging from 13.8kV to 380kV. In this critical role, you will be responsible for ensuring the seamless integration, functionality, and safety of substation components, including power transformers, switchgear, protection systems, and SCADA networks. Your expertise will be pivotal in delivering projects that meet stringent technical and safety standards while aligning with client expectations and regulatory requirements.

Key Responsibilities

• Substation Testing & Commissioning: Execute comprehensive pre-commissioning and commissioning activities for HV/EHV substations, including power transformers, GIS/AIS switchgear, circuit breakers, disconnectors, earthing switches, current transformers (CTs), voltage transformers (VTs/CVTs), protection & control panels, SCADA systems, and communication networks.
• Protection & Control Systems: Conduct advanced testing and configuration of protection relays, including secondary and primary injection tests to validate accuracy and performance.
• Transformer Testing: Perform detailed transformer assessments, including turns ratio (TTR) testing, winding resistance measurements, insulation resistance checks, and functional performance evaluations.
• System Verification & Validation: Ensure the integrity of interlocks, control logic, and protection schemes through rigorous testing and validation processes.
• Energization & Synchronization Support: Provide technical expertise during substation energization and synchronization activities to ensure smooth and safe operations.
• Troubleshooting & Issue Resolution: Diagnose and resolve equipment and system issues encountered during commissioning to minimize project delays and ensure compliance with specifications.
• Documentation & Reporting: Develop and maintain detailed commissioning procedures, test reports, punch lists, and daily/weekly/final commissioning reports to ensure transparency and accountability throughout the project lifecycle.
• Stakeholder Collaboration: Work closely with clients, consultants, and cross-functional project teams to facilitate seamless coordination, address technical queries, and ensure alignment with project milestones.
• Safety & Quality Assurance: Uphold rigorous safety protocols and quality standards to mitigate risks and ensure compliance with industry regulations and organizational policies.

Qualifications & Competencies

To excel in this role, you must possess the following qualifications and competencies:

• Education: A Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field from an accredited institution.
• Experience: Minimum of 5–10 years of hands-on experience in HV substation testing and commissioning, with a proven track record in AIS/GIS substations up to 132kV, 220kV, or 380kV.
• Technical Skills:
  • Proficiency in testing and commissioning of power transformers, switchgear, protection relays, and SCADA systems.
  • Strong understanding of secondary and primary injection testing methodologies.
  • Familiarity with insulation resistance testing, winding resistance measurements, and functional performance evaluations.
