Database Administrator

Position Overview

We are looking for a highly skilled and proactive Database Administrator (DBA) with deep expertise in PostgreSQL and MySQL environments to join our dynamic IT team. In this critical role, you will be responsible for the administration, performance optimization, security, and reliability of our database infrastructure, ensuring seamless operations for business-critical applications. The ideal candidate will possess a strong technical background in database management, a commitment to continuous improvement, and the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams to support organizational objectives.

Key Responsibilities

Database Administration & Maintenance

You will administer, monitor, and maintain robust PostgreSQL and MySQL database environments, ensuring optimal performance, reliability, and security across production and non-production systems. Your responsibilities will include:

• Installing, configuring, migrating, upgrading, and applying patches to database systems in accordance with best practices and organizational standards.
• Developing and enforcing database standards, policies, and operational procedures to maintain consistency and compliance.
• Managing user access controls, authentication mechanisms, and database security protocols to safeguard sensitive information.

Performance Optimization & Capacity Management

To drive efficiency and scalability, you will:

• Monitor database performance through proactive health checks and real-time analytics, identifying and resolving bottlenecks before they impact operations.
• Optimize SQL queries, indexes, and database configurations to enhance response times and resource utilization.
• Conduct capacity planning and resource analysis to anticipate growth and ensure infrastructure scalability.

Backup, Recovery & High Availability

You will design and implement robust backup, recovery, and high-availability strategies to minimize downtime and data loss, including:

• Managing comprehensive backup and recovery procedures to meet recovery point objectives (RPO) and recovery time objectives (RTO).
• Configuring and maintaining replication solutions and clustering architectures to ensure continuous availability.
• Supporting disaster recovery planning, testing, and execution to maintain business continuity.

Production Support & Incident Management

As a key member of our support team, you will:

• Investigate, diagnose, and resolve database-related incidents and service disruptions with a focus on root cause analysis (RCA) and preventive measures.
• Provide 24/7 on-call support and participate in incident management activities to ensure rapid response and resolution.
• Collaborate closely with application teams during deployments, database releases, and upgrades to ensure smooth transitions and minimal disruption.

Security & Compliance

You will uphold the highest standards of data security and regulatory compliance by:

• Implementing and enforcing database security best practices, including access controls, encryption, and vulnerability remediation.
• Monitoring audit logs and database activities to detect and mitigate potential security threats.
• Ensuring adherence to organizational governance policies and industry regulations.

Documentation & Continuous Improvement

To foster operational excellence, you will:

• Maintain accurate technical documentation, including runbooks, standard operating procedures, and knowledge base articles.
• Develop automation scripts and tools to streamline routine tasks and improve operational efficiency.
• Recommend and implement database optimization and modernization initiatives to align with evolving business needs.

Required Technical Skills

• Extensive hands-on experience administering PostgreSQL databases in production environments.
• Solid experience with MySQL administration and optimization techniques.
• Expertise in database replication technologies, including logical and physical replication methods.
• Strong proficiency in backup, recovery, and disaster recovery methodologies, with a focus on meeting RPO/RTO targets.
• In-depth knowledge of performance tuning, query optimization, and troubleshooting in high-volume database systems.
• Experience with Linux administration and shell scripting for automation and system management.
• Familiarity with database monitoring and alerting tools to proactively identify and address issues.
• Comprehensive understanding of database security best practices, including encryption, access controls, and audit compliance.
• Knowledge of High Availability (HA) and clustering solutions, such as Patroni, PostgreSQL Streaming Replication, or MySQL Group Replication.
• Proven track record supporting production-critical database environments with minimal downtime.

Education & Qualifications

A Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Software Engineering, or a related technical field is required. Relevant certifications in PostgreSQL or MySQL administration, such as PostgreSQL Certified Professional or Oracle Certified Professional, MySQL Database Administrator, are highly desirable.
