We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Pediatric Anesthesia Consultant to join a distinguished tertiary healthcare provider in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. In this pivotal role, you will deliver exceptional anesthetic care to infants, children, and adolescents, supporting a wide range of high-acuity surgical specialties while ensuring the highest standards of safety and clinical excellence. Key Responsibilities
As a Pediatric Anesthesia Consultant, your core responsibilities will encompass:
- Comprehensive Anesthetic Care: Provide independent anesthesia services for a diverse spectrum of surgical procedures, including general and neonatal surgery, ENT, orthopedics, ophthalmology, urology, pediatric trauma, oncology, radiology, and interventional procedures.
- High-Risk Patient Management: Deliver safe and effective anesthesia for high-risk pediatric patients classified as ASA III–IV, with a focus on complex airway management, critical care cases, and emergency resuscitation.
- Neonatal and Pediatric Intensive Care Support: Offer anesthesia support to NICU and PICU, including neonatal emergencies, pre-operative optimization, and post-operative pain control, ensuring seamless continuity of care.
- Advanced Pain Management: Perform and supervise regional and ultrasound-guided nerve blocks as part of a multimodal pain management strategy, enhancing patient recovery and outcomes.
- Multidisciplinary Collaboration: Actively participate in multidisciplinary team (MDT) discussions, peri-operative care planning, and the development of evidence-based clinical pathways to optimize patient care.
- Quality Improvement and Governance: Contribute to departmental audits, morbidity & mortality reviews, and quality improvement initiatives to uphold the highest standards of clinical governance and patient safety.
- Education and Training: Mentor and train junior anesthesia staff, lead simulation sessions, and support competency development programs to foster a culture of continuous learning and professional growth.
- Regulatory Compliance: Ensure full adherence to the standards set by the Saudi Commission for Health Specialties (SCFHS), Joint Commission International (JCI), and the Ministry of Health (MOH) in all aspects of safety, documentation, and clinical practice.
Requirements
To qualify for this prestigious role, candidates must meet the following criteria:
- Professional Certification: Western Board Certification in Anesthesia, such as FRCA, American Board, FRCPC, CIC, FANZCA, or an equivalent qualification.
- Pediatric Anesthesia Expertise: Recognized Fellowship in Pediatric Anesthesia or a minimum of 2–3 years of extensive tertiary-level experience in pediatric anesthesia.
- Regulatory Eligibility: Eligibility for SCFHS Consultant Classification to practice in Saudi Arabia.
- Clinical Proficiency: Demonstrated proficiency in neonatal and pediatric airway management, regional anesthesia, and high-acuity pediatric cases, with experience in tertiary children’s hospitals or major surgical centers preferred.
- Communication and Teamwork: Exceptional communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively within multidisciplinary pediatric teams.
Desirable Experience
While not mandatory, the following experiences will be highly advantageous:
- Exposure to pediatric cardiac anesthesia or complex airway programs.
- Experience with simulation-based training, pediatric pain pathways, and sedation services.
- Active participation in clinical research, guideline development, or quality improvement projects.
