Senior Consultant Sports Medicine Physician – Riyadh, Saudi Arabia

Key Responsibilities

As a Consultant Sports Medicine Physician, you will play a pivotal role in delivering expert-level clinical care to athletes and active individuals. Your responsibilities will include:

• Providing advanced diagnostic and therapeutic management for sports-related injuries and musculoskeletal conditions, ensuring evidence-based and patient-centered care.
• Managing both acute and chronic sports injuries in recreational and professional athletes, with a focus on restoring function and optimizing performance.
• Assessing and treating overuse injuries, tendon and ligament disorders, and exercise-related musculoskeletal conditions to prevent long-term complications.
• Developing tailored treatment, rehabilitation, and return-to-sport plans that align with each patient’s unique needs and athletic goals.
• Conducting comprehensive sports medicine and musculoskeletal evaluations to inform clinical decision-making and treatment strategies.
• Offering expert guidance on injury prevention, safe return to physical activity, and exercise prescription to promote long-term health and performance.
• Collaborating closely with a multidisciplinary team, including orthopaedic surgeons, physiotherapists, rehabilitation specialists, radiologists, and other healthcare professionals, to ensure integrated and holistic patient care.
• Managing patients requiring non-operative sports medicine interventions, including injections, bracing, and therapeutic modalities.
• Participating in athlete screening, fitness assessments, and injury-prevention programs to enhance athletic performance and reduce injury risk.
• Supporting rehabilitation planning for patients recovering from musculoskeletal injuries or surgeries, ensuring a seamless transition from acute care to functional recovery.
• Contributing to multidisciplinary case discussions, clinical governance activities, and quality improvement initiatives to maintain the highest standards of care.
• Documenting patient encounters with precision, maintaining clinical quality, and upholding patient safety as top priorities.
• Engaging in education, teaching, and professional development activities to stay current with advancements in sports medicine and share expertise with colleagues and trainees.

Required Qualifications

To be considered for this role, candidates must meet the following criteria:

• Hold a medical degree from a recognized institution.
• Possess a recognized Western specialist or consultant qualification, such as:
• UK CCT / CCST or equivalent UK specialist qualification.
• American Board certification in Sports Medicine.
• Canadian Royal College certification in Sports Medicine.
• Irish specialist qualification (CSCST) or equivalent.
• Australian or New Zealand specialist qualification in Sports and Exercise Medicine.
• Any other equivalent Western board or specialist certification accepted for consultant classification in Saudi Arabia.
• Have completed specialist training in Sports Medicine or an appropriately recognized pathway leading to consultant-level practice in Sports and Exercise Medicine.
• Demonstrate current consultant-level clinical experience with a strong background in sports injury and musculoskeletal medicine.
• Possess excellent clinical judgment, communication skills, and the ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team.
• Meet eligibility requirements for SCFHS (Saudi Commission for Health Specialties) Consultant classification and registration.
• Hold an existing SCFHS classification or license, if available, which is highly advantageous.

Preferred Clinical Expertise

While all qualified candidates are encouraged to apply, preference will be given to those with specialized experience in the following areas:

• Sports and Exercise Medicine, with a focus on musculoskeletal conditions.
• Management of acute sports injuries and chronic overuse conditions.
• Expertise in tendon and ligament disorders, including diagnostic and therapeutic interventions.
• Experience in non-operative musculoskeletal treatment and athlete rehabilitation.
• Proficiency in return-to-sport assessment and injury-prevention strategies.
• Familiarity with exercise prescription and performance optimization in athletes.
• Experience working in multidisciplinary athlete care environments, including professional or elite sports settings.
