Track Engineer (Design) – Lead Rail Alignment Excellence in Saudi Arabia

As a key member of our Project Management Consultancy (PMC) team, you will be responsible for overseeing the entire lifecycle of track alignment design—from conceptualization to final delivery—while fostering collaboration between civil, structural, trackwork, signaling, and other critical disciplines. Your expertise will ensure that every design element meets technical excellence, constructability, and client satisfaction standards.

Key Responsibilities

Your role will encompass a broad spectrum of technical and leadership responsibilities, including:

• Leadership in Track Alignment Design: Collaborate closely with the Engineering Lead to develop and refine horizontal and vertical alignment designs for mainline, depot, and yard tracks using industry-leading software such as Bentley OpenRail, Civil 3D, and MX. Ensure designs are optimized for performance, maintainability, and cost-efficiency while adhering to international and regional rail standards.
• Geometric Design and Value Engineering: Define and enforce geometric design criteria, alignment control parameters, and tolerances across all project phases—conceptual, preliminary, and detailed. Conduct thorough design checks, optioneering, and value engineering for alignments, turnouts, crossovers, and transition curves to enhance operational efficiency and reduce lifecycle costs.
• Compliance and Standards Adherence: Ensure all designs comply with international rail standards (UIC, EN, AREMA) as well as client-specific requirements, integrating RAMS (Reliability, Availability, Maintainability, Safety), maintainability assessments, and ride quality considerations into every project phase.
• Multidisciplinary Coordination: Act as the primary PMC representative to the client, coordinating interfaces between civil, structural, trackwork, OCS (Operations, Control, and Signaling), drainage, utilities, and other stakeholders. Manage technical queries, change requests, and design approvals while maintaining rigorous audit trails and configuration control.
• Risk Management and Stakeholder Engagement: Lead design risk assessments, addressing ground conditions, utility constraints, third-party interfaces, and environmental factors. Engage with stakeholders, authorities, and third parties to resolve challenges, secure approvals, and protect critical corridors.
• Quality Assurance and Delivery Oversight: Oversee contractor and designer performance to ensure alignment deliverables meet baseline schedules and quality standards. Implement robust quality assurance processes, including independent design reviews and verification/validation activities, to guarantee excellence in every output.
• Technical Reporting and Presentation: Prepare and present comprehensive technical reports, design review comments, and decision logs to client stakeholders. Ensure constructability and staging are embedded in designs, supporting site teams during construction and addressing RFIs (Requests for Information) promptly.
• Regulatory and Permitting Support: Align deliverables with KSA authority requirements and applicable standards, providing critical support for permitting and approvals. Collaborate with authorities to navigate regulatory landscapes and secure necessary clearances for project execution.

Qualifications and Experience

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced professional with a proven track record in railway track alignment and geometric design. Ideal candidates will possess:

• Education: A Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or a related discipline, with a Master’s degree strongly preferred.
• Experience: Minimum 10 years of hands-on experience in railway track alignment and geometric design, with significant involvement in major rail programs. Experience in the KSA or GCC is highly advantageous, particularly with familiarity with KSA standards and authority processes.
• Technical Proficiency: Proficiency in rail alignment and civil design software, including OpenRail/OpenRoads, Civil 3D, MX, and PowerRail Track, as well as experience with BIM (Building Information Modeling) workflows. Deep knowledge of track geometry principles (UIC/EN/AREMA), turnouts, special trackwork, transition curves, cant, and cant deficiency is essential.
• Multidisciplinary Leadership: Demonstrated experience in managing multidisciplinary interfaces and performing PMC/consultancy functions with clients, ensuring seamless collaboration across teams.
• Communication and Stakeholder Management: Exceptional communication, report writing, and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to lead technical meetings, drive informed decisions, and present complex information clearly to diverse audiences.
• Quality and Risk Management: Experience with quality systems, risk management, and configuration control for design packages, ensuring projects are delivered with the highest standards of integrity and reliability.
