As a Laboratory Specialist, you will operate within the Clinical Laboratory and Blood Bank divisions, performing routine and moderately complex analyses under the supervision of Senior Medical Technicians. Your expertise will be instrumental in maintaining operational efficiency, adhering to stringent quality standards, and supporting emergency procedures across various laboratory sections. This role demands adaptability, as you may rotate through different departments to ensure comprehensive familiarity with critical procedures, particularly during critical shifts.

Key Responsibilities

• Patient-Centric Excellence: Uphold the highest standards of medical treatment, compassion, and understanding in every interaction, ensuring every patient receives the care they deserve.
• Shift and On-Call Commitment: Provide dedicated service during weekdays, weekends, public holidays, and night shifts, contributing to the seamless operation of the laboratory.
• Specimen Handling and Testing: Collect, prepare, and assess clinical specimens in aseptic conditions, adhering to established policies and protocols to guarantee accuracy and reliability.
• Technical Proficiency: Perform routine and moderately complex laboratory tests, calibrate equipment, and maintain rigorous quality control measures in alignment with Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
• Equipment Maintenance and Calibration: Conduct daily calibration, regular assessments, and maintenance of laboratory equipment, ensuring optimal performance and documentation of all activities.
• Quality Assurance and Compliance: Monitor and report technical or managerial deficiencies to Senior Technicians, participate in troubleshooting, and validate laboratory results prior to release through the Laboratory Information System (LIS).
• Inventory and Resource Management: Maintain accurate inventory of reagents, products, and supplies essential for laboratory operations.
• Training and Mentorship: Assist in the orientation and training of new technicians, fostering a culture of continuous learning and professional growth.
• Patient and Family Education: Educate patients and families on laboratory procedures, test results, and health-related information, ensuring compliance with patient and family education policies and proper documentation.
• Confidentiality and Compliance: Safeguard patient health information in strict adherence to privacy and regulatory standards.

Qualifications and Requirements

To excel in this position, you must meet the following criteria:

• Education: A Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent from an accredited school of Medical Technology, College, or University.
• Licensure and Registration: Current registration as a Medical Technologist or Technician from the designated authority in your country of origin, along with a valid license from the Saudi Arabia Ministry of Health (MOH).
• Experience: A minimum of three (3) years of post-qualification clinical laboratory experience in a large acute care hospital setting, with a preference for one (1) year in a similar role.
• Skills and Competencies:
  • Fluency in both verbal and written English.
  • Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills, with a professional demeanor.
  • Proficient computer skills, including familiarity with Laboratory Information Systems (LIS).
  • In-depth knowledge of current proficiency testing and quality control methodologies.
