Environmental Engineer – Driving Sustainability and Compliance in Saudi Arabia’s Infrastructure Development

Key Responsibilities

As part of the Senior Sustainability and Environmental Management team, you will play a critical role in implementing, monitoring, and maintaining the Environmental Management Plan (EMP) / Construction Environmental Management Plan (CEMP) across all construction activities. Your responsibilities will include:

• Strategic Implementation and Coordination: Lead the execution of the project’s Environmental and Sustainability Management Plan (EMP/SMP), Environmental Site Control Plan (ESCP), and Construction and Demolition Waste Management Plan (C&DWMP) within assigned work areas, ensuring seamless alignment with project objectives and sustainability goals.
• Regulatory and Certification Expertise: Leverage your knowledge of LEED and Mostadam certification requirements to support environmental and sustainability initiatives on a project with a proven track record of compliance and excellence. Your practical experience in managing LEED- or Mostadam-certified construction projects will be instrumental in driving best practices forward.
• Stakeholder Engagement and Advisory: Act as a trusted advisor to construction management, supervisors, and site teams, providing clear guidance on environmental controls for planned activities to minimize risks and ensure operational excellence.
• Risk Assessment and Compliance Monitoring: Prepare and review environmental impact assessments, risk evaluations, and activity-specific control measures to proactively address potential challenges. Conduct regular site inspections (daily, weekly, and monthly) to verify adherence to EMP requirements, permit conditions, and approved method statements.
• Environmental Stewardship and Incident Management: Monitor construction activities to mitigate impacts related to dust, noise, waste, wastewater, spills, soil contamination, and ecological disturbances. Identify non-conformances and unsafe practices, ensuring timely assignment, tracking, and closure of corrective and preventive actions (CAPAs).
• Training and Awareness: Deliver comprehensive environmental inductions, toolbox talks, and awareness training to site personnel, maintaining detailed training records to foster a culture of environmental responsibility.
• Incident Response and Reporting: Support the investigation, documentation, and resolution of environmental incidents, spills, complaints, and near misses, ensuring full compliance with regulatory and organizational protocols.
• Record Management and Compliance: Maintain meticulous records of permits, waste tracking, monitoring data, inspections, incidents, and audit findings to support continuous improvement and regulatory alignment.
• Regulatory and Stakeholder Liaison: Collaborate closely with consultants, regulatory authorities (NCEC, MEWA, NCW, NCVC), and other stakeholders to address environmental concerns and ensure seamless communication across all interfaces.
• Audit Support and System Alignment: Assist in internal and external environmental audits and help sustain alignment with ABCC’s ISO 14001:2015 Environmental Management System, reinforcing the organization’s commitment to sustainability.

Qualifications and Experience

We are seeking a highly qualified Environmental Engineer with a proven track record in construction or infrastructure projects within the GCC region. Ideal candidates will possess:

• A Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Engineering, Environmental Science, Chemical Engineering, or a related discipline from a recognized university.
• 7–10 years of relevant experience in environmental management on large-scale construction or infrastructure projects, with a focus on compliance, sustainability, and regulatory alignment.
• In-depth knowledge of Saudi environmental regulations and familiarity with permitting authorities such as NCEC, MEWA, NCW, and NCVC.
• Professional certifications are highly desirable, including Environmental Diploma Level 6 or 7, NEBOSH EMC, IESP membership, ISO 14001 certification, and Saudi Council of Engineers membership. Preference will be given to candidates with LEED and Mostadam certifications.
• Hands-on experience in EMP/CEMP implementation, environmental monitoring, incident investigation, and CAPA tracking.
• Fluency in English (mandatory per project contract conditions); Arabic language skills are a significant advantage.
