Position Overview
We are currently seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Laboratory Technician (Laborant) to join our team for an upcoming road and infrastructure project in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. In this critical role, you will play a pivotal part in ensuring the highest standards of quality control and material testing, thereby contributing to the successful delivery of our projects. The ideal candidate will bring extensive hands-on experience in construction site laboratories, a deep understanding of material testing methodologies, and a disciplined approach to maintaining compliance with international quality standards.
Key Requirements
- Diploma or Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Materials Science, or a related technical field from an accredited institution.
- Minimum of 20 years of experience in quality control within construction and infrastructure projects.
- At least 10 years of direct experience in construction site laboratories, including material testing and laboratory supervision.
- Fluency in English, both written and spoken, with the ability to communicate technical information effectively.
- Strong knowledge of construction materials testing, laboratory procedures, and international quality standards (e.g., AASHTO, ASTM).
- Proven leadership and management skills to oversee laboratory personnel, testing schedules, and reporting activities.
- Exceptional attention to detail and a commitment to maintaining test accuracy, compliance, and meticulous documentation.
- Proficiency in MS Office Suite for generating reports, maintaining records, and ensuring data integrity.
Core Responsibilities
The Laboratory Technician will be responsible for a wide range of critical tasks to uphold the highest standards of quality control and material testing. Your duties will include:
- Material Testing: Conduct routine laboratory and field tests on soil, aggregates, concrete, and asphalt in strict adherence to project specifications and international standards, including AASHTO and ASTM protocols.
- Sampling: Perform systematic on-site sampling of raw materials and fresh concrete/asphalt to ensure representative testing and maintain quality control throughout the project.
- Data Recording: Accurately record, calculate, and document all test data in standardized formats. Ensure laboratory logs are up-to-date, organized, and readily available for audits and inspections.
- Equipment Maintenance: Clean, maintain, and assist in the periodic calibration of laboratory testing equipment and sensitive measuring instruments to ensure precision and reliability in test results.
- Non-Conformity Reporting: Immediately escalate any test results that fall outside specified tolerances or project requirements to the QA/QC Manager for prompt resolution.
- Sample Management: Properly label, store, and track the shelf-life of samples, such as concrete cylinders and cubes, to ensure accurate curing and timely testing in accordance with project timelines.
- Site Coordination: Collaborate closely with site engineers and batching plants to align testing schedules with daily construction progress, ensuring seamless integration of quality control measures into the workflow.
- Health & Safety: Maintain a clean, organized, and safe laboratory environment. Strictly adhere to site safety protocols and ensure the proper handling, storage, and disposal of chemical reagents and heavy equipment.
- Documentation Support: Assist in the preparation of daily and weekly quality reports to support project accountability, compliance certificates, and regulatory submissions.
