Role Overview
In the fast-paced logistics environment of Amazon’s delivery stations, we are seeking an experienced Workplace Health and Safety (WHS) Specialist to uphold and enhance health, safety, and employee well-being standards. This critical role will involve overseeing safety protocols, driving continuous improvement initiatives, and ensuring compliance with global and local regulations. The WHS Specialist will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams to implement robust safety management systems, mitigate risks, and foster a culture of safety excellence across multi-shift operations.
Key Responsibilities
- Health and Safety Leadership: Supervise and enhance health, safety, and employee satisfaction within the delivery station, ensuring a productive and secure work environment.
- Collaborative Project Management: Work effectively with various operations sites to develop and execute health and safety initiatives, driving alignment with Amazon’s global safety policies.
- Guidance and Compliance: Provide expert advice on health and safety matters to stakeholders, ensuring adherence to OSHA regulations (29 CFR 1910), local legislative requirements, and Amazon’s internal standards.
- Risk Assessment and Mitigation: Plan and implement work systems to reduce health and safety risks, including recommending machinery and process adaptations where necessary.
- Documentation and Reporting: Develop and maintain comprehensive health and safety documentation, including procedures, tools, and training materials in both English and Arabic. Ensure robust reporting mechanisms are in place for safety statistics and management updates.
- Change Management: Support business transformation initiatives by integrating effective change management processes within the delivery station’s flexible operational framework.
- Behavioral Culture Development: Lead and direct behavioral safety culture change programs across a large, complex, multi-shift operation to foster a proactive safety mindset.
- Contractor Safety Oversight: Implement and review contractor management safety processes to ensure compliance and mitigate risks associated with third-party operations.
Qualifications and Skills
To excel in this role, candidates must meet the following basic qualifications:
- Minimum of three years of hands-on experience in workplace health and safety (WHS) or a related field.
- In-depth knowledge of OSHA regulations, particularly 29 CFR 1910, and familiarity with local legislative requirements.
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in a relevant discipline.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word for documentation and reporting purposes.
- Demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality in matters involving security or personnel issues.
- Certification in NEBOSH or IOSH, along with Kawader certification at Level 2.
- Fluency in both English and Arabic, with strong communication skills to engage with diverse stakeholders.
Preferred qualifications include experience in emergency response coordination and worker’s compensation case management, which will further enhance the candidate’s ability to contribute to a safe and compliant work environment.
