About the Pacific Multi-Country Office (MCO)

The Pacific Multi-Country Office is UNICEF’s oldest and largest regional office, dedicated to addressing the unique challenges faced by small island developing states. Our programmes focus on critical areas such as health, nutrition, education, child protection, climate resilience, and social policy. We tackle pressing issues including vulnerability to climate change, geographic isolation, and constraints in service delivery, ensuring that no child is left behind.

Role Overview

As a Programme Associate (G-6) on a temporary 8-month contract, you will play a pivotal role in supporting the WASH Specialist and contributing to the effective implementation and monitoring of UNICEF’s programmes. This position requires a high level of technical and administrative expertise, with a focus on data analysis, budget tracking, reporting, and stakeholder coordination. You will exercise independent judgment, anticipate needs, and provide actionable recommendations to enhance programme planning, execution, and reporting outcomes.

Key Responsibilities

  • Project Management and Implementing Partnership Coordination: Provide specialized support to facilitate the development, implementation, and monitoring of UNICEF’s programmes, ensuring alignment with organizational goals and stakeholder expectations.
  • Technical and Operational Support: Assist in programme implementation by offering technical expertise and operational guidance, ensuring adherence to best practices and UNICEF standards.
  • Grant Management, Budget Monitoring, and Reporting: Track and manage budgets, monitor expenditures, and prepare accurate financial reports to ensure compliance with organizational rules and donor requirements.
  • Digital Innovation and Operational Efficiency: Leverage digital tools and innovative solutions to enhance programme efficiency, data management, and reporting capabilities.
  • Communication, Knowledge Sharing, and Dissemination: Facilitate effective communication and knowledge sharing within the team and with external stakeholders, ensuring transparency and accountability.
  • Capacity Building and Event Coordination: Organize and support capacity-building initiatives and events to strengthen the skills of local partners and stakeholders, fostering sustainable development.
  • Flexibility and Surge Support: Demonstrate adaptability and provide surge support as needed to address emerging challenges and priorities in programme delivery.

Qualifications and Requirements

To excel in this role, you must meet the following minimum requirements:

  • Education: Completion of secondary education is required.
  • Work Experience: A minimum of six years of relevant experience in administration, programme management, or project management is essential.
  • Skills: Strong organizational, planning, and prioritization skills; ability to work effectively with diverse teams; excellent office management skills; attention to detail; strong analytical abilities; proficiency in MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Language Requirements: Fluency in English and Gilbertese is mandatory.

Desirable qualifications include a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Management, or a related field, as well as proficiency in another official UN language (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian, or Spanish). Experience working with a UN agency or international organization, as well as familiarity with SAP, Power BI, SharePoint, and AI tools, will be considered an asset.
