Role Overview

As a Senior Design Engineer – Mechanical Fire Water Pump, you will take the helm of mechanical design projects for fire water pump systems, overseeing the entire lifecycle from initial sales order review to final production handover. Your role is pivotal in ensuring that every design adheres to stringent industry standards, including Aramco engineering specifications, NFPA 20, and other regulatory codes. You will provide technical leadership, guiding the design, documentation, and execution of fire protection pumping systems with precision and innovation. This position demands a keen eye for detail, a deep understanding of mechanical engineering principles, and the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams to deliver reliable, high-performance solutions.

Key Responsibilities

• Technical Leadership and Design Excellence: Interpret Aramco project specifications and NFPA 20 requirements to develop compliant fire water pump designs. Prepare and deliver essential customer-facing documents, including Pump Cross Section drawings, General Arrangement drawings, P&ID diagrams, and relevant calculations to ensure alignment with project objectives and regulatory standards.
• Component Coordination and Procurement: Approve and coordinate buyout component documentation for critical components such as motors, couplings, seals, gearboxes, valves, and diesel engines. Ensure that all selected components meet performance, safety, and reliability criteria for fire protection systems.
• Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with the instrumentation team to integrate fire system controls and monitoring seamlessly. Generate and manage Bill of Materials (BOM) in SAP ERP, ensuring accuracy and completeness for procurement and production teams.
• Stakeholder Engagement: Act as a liaison between customers, Aramco representatives, and sub-suppliers to facilitate design alignment, approvals, and seamless project execution. Maintain clear and proactive communication to address technical queries and resolve challenges efficiently.
• Project Lifecycle Support: Provide unwavering support to cross-functional teams, including Operations, Procurement, Quality, and Testing, throughout the project lifecycle. Offer commissioning support and troubleshooting for fire pump systems, whether on-site or during testing phases, to ensure optimal performance and compliance.
• Regulatory Compliance and Documentation: Prepare and submit design calculations and technical reports for client and regulatory approval. Ensure that all designs meet the highest safety, reliability, and performance standards required for fire protection systems, mitigating risks and enhancing system integrity.

Qualifications and Requirements

• Education: Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
• Experience: 5–10 years of hands-on experience in centrifugal pump design, with a specialized focus on fire water systems. A strong understanding of both horizontal and vertical pump design and operation is essential.
• Technical Proficiency: In-depth knowledge of NFPA 20, API standards, and Aramco engineering specifications. Proficiency in industry-leading software tools, including Autodesk (AutoCAD, Inventor), Siemens NX, and Teamcenter, is required. Experience with SAP for BOM and project tracking is highly desirable.
• Project Management: Proven ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, balancing priorities and deadlines while maintaining a results-oriented mindset. Strong ownership of deliverables and attention to detail are critical for success in this role.
• Soft Skills: Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to interface effectively with clients, regulatory bodies, and internal teams. A proactive approach to problem-solving and a commitment to continuous improvement are essential.
