Position Overview
The BMS Design & Commissioning Engineer plays a pivotal role within our technical team, responsible for the meticulous review and approval of Building Management System (BMS) designs, the development of technical specifications, and ensuring adherence to project requirements and industry standards. This position demands a high level of technical expertise in overseeing testing and commissioning activities, providing strategic recommendations, and troubleshooting complex system issues to ensure seamless operational performance. The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in BMS platforms and protocols, coupled with the ability to collaborate effectively across multidisciplinary teams to deliver high-quality, compliant, and innovative solutions.
Key Responsibilities
The BMS Design & Commissioning Engineer will undertake a comprehensive range of responsibilities, including:
- Design Development & Review: Develop and establish standards and specifications for BMS systems in alignment with project requirements. Participate in tender preparation, conduct technical evaluations of bidders' profiles, and review all stages of BMS design, including generic prototype designs, detailed site-specific designs, Method Statements (MAR), Issued for Construction (IFC) drawings, and shop drawings.
- Compliance & Risk Management: Ensure BMS designs comply with project specifications, industry codes, standards, and cybersecurity regulations. Identify potential design risks, gaps, or inconsistencies, and implement necessary troubleshooting measures to mitigate these issues.
- System Integration & Coordination: Coordinate design interfaces and ensure compatibility with various major systems, including mechanical, electrical, fire protection, security, and information technology systems. Oversee installation methodologies, compatibility protocols, and the preparation of Operation & Maintenance (O&M) manuals.
- Testing & Commissioning: Oversee testing and commissioning procedures, conduct site inspections to verify installation quality, and ensure compliance with approved designs. Review as-built documentation to confirm system readiness for operational use and participate in final acceptance and handover activities.
- Project Specifications & Expansion Planning: Assist in outlining project specifications for the owner’s future reference, ensuring provisions for space expansion, system enhancement, and optimization opportunities.
Qualifications & Experience
To qualify for this role, candidates must meet the following criteria:
- Education: A Bachelor’s degree in Mechatronics Engineering or a related field is required.
- Professional Experience: A minimum of 5 to 10 years of hands-on experience with one or more major BMS platforms, including Honeywell, Johnson Controls, Tridium, or Niagara, with mandatory proficiency in at least two of these platforms.
- Technical Proficiency: Strong understanding of BMS protocols such as BACnet IP, Modbus TCP/IP, and KNX. Additional knowledge in Robotics, Autonomous Mobile Robots (AMRs), Goods-to-Person (G2P) systems, or Automated Storage and Retrieval Systems (AS/RS) is advantageous. Familiarity with BIM and Navisworks software is considered a plus.
- System Integration Knowledge: Experience in integrating BMS with various mechanical, electrical, and control systems, including CCTV, data centers, and Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS) systems.
- Project & Consulting Experience: Proven track record in design reviewing, project consulting, Project Management Consultancy (PMC), or owner representative roles. Extensive experience in reviewing and commissioning BMS systems for multi-purpose facilities, including acceptance and handover activities.
- Certifications & Skills: Technical certifications such as Certified Commissioning Professional (CCP) or Certified Energy Manager (CEM) are highly desirable. The candidate must demonstrate exceptional organizational skills, the ability to manage multiple tasks under pressure, and proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel and PowerPoint.
