WSP is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Principal Engineer – Dry Utilities to join our dynamic team in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. In this pivotal role, you will play a central part in designing and implementing cutting-edge electrical and power infrastructure projects across the Middle East. Your expertise will be instrumental in delivering innovative engineering solutions that meet the highest standards of quality, efficiency, and regulatory compliance.
Key Responsibilities
As a Principal Engineer in Dry Utilities, your core responsibilities will encompass a broad spectrum of technical and project management duties, including:
- Engineering Leadership: Provide comprehensive engineering solutions, including analysis, specifications, and procurement support, for single and multi-disciplinary infrastructure projects. Ensure all designs adhere to relevant codes, standards, and client requirements.
- Project Management: Oversee project execution from inception to final delivery, including obtaining necessary approvals (NOCs) and managing deliverables. Monitor budgets, resource allocation, and timelines to ensure timely and cost-effective project completion.
- Technical Expertise: Design and develop high-voltage, medium-voltage, low-voltage, street lighting, and telecom networks for infrastructure, urban planning, roads, and tunnel projects. Conduct grounding, lightning protection, cable containment, and shielding design, as well as load flow analysis, short circuit studies, and protection scheme evaluations.
- Regulatory Compliance: Ensure all designs comply with local authority regulations in the Gulf region. Prepare and compile authority approval documentation, attend meetings with regulatory bodies, and address any end-user feedback to maintain client satisfaction.
- Team Leadership: Manage and mentor engineers and CAD teams, providing technical guidance and support. Review contractor shop drawings and material submittals to ensure alignment with project specifications.
- Software Proficiency: Utilize industry-leading software tools such as Dialux, Amtech, ETAP, AutoCAD, Civil3D, Navisworks, and Microsoft Office to produce accurate reports, drawings, calculations, and presentations.
- Risk and Opportunity Management: Identify, assess, and mitigate project risks while capitalizing on opportunities to enhance project outcomes. Maintain a thorough understanding of contract clauses and key project deliverables.
- Stakeholder Engagement: Present engineering solutions to clients and stakeholders, ensuring clear communication and alignment with project objectives. Organize and attend progress meetings with contractors, consultants, and authorities to facilitate seamless project execution.
Qualifications and Experience
To excel in this role, you will possess the following qualifications and attributes:
- A Bachelor’s degree (BEng/BSc Honors) or equivalent in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline, with a minimum of 12 years of postgraduate experience in dry utilities engineering.
- Professional certification such as Chartered Engineer (C.Eng) or Project Management Professional (PMP) is highly advantageous.
- Membership or progress toward membership in a recognized professional body is preferred.
- Proven experience in modelling power and lighting networks, detailed design of engineering solutions, and report writing.
- Strong proficiency in ETAP, AutoCAD, Civil3D, and other relevant software for design and analysis.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English, with the ability to prepare clear and concise technical documentation.
- In-depth knowledge of local authority regulations and standards in the Gulf region.
