Role Overview

As a Power Supply & Distribution Engineer, you will play a pivotal role in ensuring the safe, efficient, and reliable operation of power supply and distribution systems for railway and monorail infrastructure. Your responsibilities will span from validating construction drawings to overseeing on-site installations, conducting rigorous testing, and ensuring seamless integration with other critical systems. This role demands a high level of technical expertise, meticulous attention to detail, and the ability to collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary teams to deliver world-class infrastructure solutions.

Key Responsibilities

Validation of Construction Drawings

  • Review and validate power supply and traction system drawings to ensure adherence to project specifications, safety regulations, and international railway standards, including EN 50122, EN 50163, and IEC 61850.
  • Collaborate with design teams and suppliers to identify and resolve discrepancies or technical challenges, ensuring alignment with project objectives.
  • Maintain accurate documentation and updates of power supply and distribution system layouts throughout the project lifecycle.

Site Supervision

  • Oversee the installation and commissioning of 750V DC traction power systems, including third rail or overhead conductor rail systems, traction power substations (TPS), rectifier units, medium voltage (MV) and low voltage (LV) power distribution, DC switchgear, protection relays, energy metering, emergency power supply systems (UPS, generators), and earthing, bonding, and lightning protection systems.
  • Ensure all construction activities comply with approved plans, specifications, and stringent safety standards.
  • Conduct thorough site inspections to verify installation quality, system reliability, and adherence to design intent.
  • Provide expert technical guidance to construction teams and proactively address on-site power-related challenges to minimize disruptions.

Installation, Testing & Commissioning (T&C)

  • Supervise the installation and integration of traction power systems with monorail infrastructure, ensuring optimal power distribution and energy efficiency in compliance with railway traction requirements.
  • Develop and implement comprehensive testing and validation procedures for substations, power supply systems, and traction equipment.
  • Conduct critical tests, including voltage, insulation resistance, load, and performance evaluations, prior to system energization.
  • Lead the commissioning phase to guarantee the safe, stable, and reliable operation of power supply and distribution systems.

Integration & Operational Readiness

  • Ensure seamless integration of traction power, substations, and auxiliary power systems with other monorail subsystems, such as signalling, Operations Control Centre (OCC), SCADA, Automatic Fare Collection (AFC), and Platform Screen Doors (PSD).
  • Coordinate with train manufacturers, electrical contractors, and system integrators to develop and implement a robust energy distribution strategy.
  • Optimize power system reliability, redundancy, and compatibility with regenerative braking systems to enhance operational efficiency.
  • Monitor and evaluate long-term performance, energy efficiency, and maintenance strategies for traction power systems to ensure sustained reliability and sustainability.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Power Systems Engineering, or a closely related field.
  • Minimum of 12 years of progressive experience in traction power supply, railway electrification, or power distribution, with a strong focus on DC traction systems.
  • Proven expertise in 750V DC traction systems, substations, rectifier units, and railway power supply design.
  • In-depth knowledge of power distribution protection, circuit breakers, transformers, and emergency power systems.
  • Familiarity with railway electrical safety standards and compliance requirements.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills, with the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.
  • Proficiency in relevant software tools and familiarity with industry best practices for power system design and analysis.
