Traffic Engineer / Senior Traffic and Detour Engineer
الوصف الوظيفي
Position Overview
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Traffic and Detour Engineer to join our team as a senior technical specialist. This pivotal role is responsible for the comprehensive planning, design, review, and implementation of traffic management and detour strategies for major road and infrastructure projects. The successful candidate will ensure the safe, efficient, and uninterrupted movement of traffic during both construction and operational phases while minimizing disruption to road users and maintaining optimal network performance.
The role demands a high level of technical leadership in the development and evaluation of Traffic Management Plans (TMPs), detour schemes, and temporary traffic arrangements. The Senior Traffic and Detour Engineer will work closely with project stakeholders to align traffic solutions with project objectives, safety requirements, and industry standards.
Key Responsibilities
Traffic Management and Detour Planning
- Lead the development, review, and approval of Traffic Management Plans (TMPs), Detour Plans, and Temporary Traffic Control Plans for infrastructure and road projects.
- Design safe, efficient, and practical detour schemes that accommodate construction activities while maintaining traffic flow and minimizing congestion.
- Develop traffic staging and phasing plans that align with construction sequencing and project delivery schedules.
- Ensure detour designs address critical factors such as safety, accessibility, emergency vehicle access, and operational continuity.
Traffic Engineering Analysis
- Conduct comprehensive traffic impact assessments, traffic capacity analysis, and operational evaluations to assess the effectiveness of detour strategies.
- Analyze traffic volumes, turning movements, intersection performance, and overall road network operations to identify potential bottlenecks or risks.
- Utilize advanced traffic modeling and simulation tools to assess, optimize, and validate traffic detour and management strategies.
- Review contractor-submitted traffic management and detour proposals, providing expert technical recommendations and ensuring compliance with project requirements.
Project Implementation and Site Coordination
- Provide technical oversight during the implementation of traffic diversions and temporary traffic management measures.
- Conduct regular site inspections to verify that traffic diversions are executed in accordance with approved plans and safety standards.
- Identify traffic-related risks, operational conflicts, and safety concerns, and develop and implement effective mitigation measures.
- Collaborate with construction teams to ensure traffic management measures are seamlessly integrated with project schedules and milestones.
Stakeholder Coordination and Approvals
- Coordinate with clients, government authorities, traffic police, and contractors to secure necessary approvals for detour and traffic management plans.
- Participate in technical coordination meetings, providing expert input on traffic-related matters and contributing to multidisciplinary decision-making.
- Facilitate effective communication and collaboration between design, construction, and supervision teams to ensure alignment on traffic management objectives.
Compliance and Quality Assurance
- Ensure all traffic management and detour plans comply with national regulations, industry standards, and project-specific requirements.
- Oversee the proper implementation of traffic safety measures, including signage, road markings, barriers, and traffic control devices.
- Conduct thorough technical reviews and audits to verify quality, compliance, and adherence to best practices.
Documentation and Reporting
- Prepare and review detailed traffic management reports, detour drawings, technical specifications, and method statements.
- Maintain comprehensive documentation of approved traffic management plans and detour implementations for future reference and audit purposes.
- Provide clear, concise technical reports, progress updates, and strategic recommendations to project leadership and stakeholders.
Qualifications and Experience
Education and Professional Development
- Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Transportation Engineering, or a closely related discipline from an accredited institution.
- A Master's degree in Transportation Engineering or Traffic Engineering is highly desirable and will be considered a strong advantage.
- Professional membership with a recognized engineering institution, such as the Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE) or the Chartered Institution of Highways & Transportation (CIHT), is preferred.
Professional Experience
- Minimum of 15 years of progressive professional experience in traffic engineering, traffic management, and detour planning.
- Proven track record in the planning, design, and implementation of traffic management and detour strategies for major road, infrastructure, or urban development projects.
- Demonstrated experience in developing and executing complex traffic management and detour plans for large-scale construction projects.
- Extensive experience in coordinating with contractors, consultants, government authorities, and other key stakeholders to achieve project objectives.
Technical Competencies
- Strong expertise in traffic engineering principles, including traffic flow theory, capacity analysis, and intersection design.
- Proficiency in using traffic simulation and modeling software, such as VISSIM, Synchro, or similar tools.
- In-depth knowledge of national and international traffic safety standards, regulations, and best practices.
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills with a focus on practical and innovative solutions.
- Strong leadership abilities with a proven track record of mentoring and guiding junior engineers and technical staff.
- Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to liaise effectively with diverse stakeholders at all levels.
