Role Overview

The Staff Manufacturing Engineer, Powertrain Battery & Electronics, will serve as a pivotal leader in the design and implementation of advanced manufacturing equipment for Lucid’s Powertrain systems. This role requires a deep technical expertise in equipment engineering, coupled with the ability to collaborate effectively across multiple disciplines, including Logistics, Manufacturing Operations, Facilities, Product Engineering, and New Product Introduction. Your primary responsibility will be to ensure that Powertrain equipment is meticulously designed, procured, and installed to meet the highest standards of efficiency, precision, and scalability. This position demands a proactive approach to problem-solving, a commitment to continuous improvement, and the ability to drive complex technical initiatives from conception to launch.

Key Responsibilities

  • Leadership in Technical Development: Spearhead the technical efforts of cross-functional teams engaged in the development of complex manufacturing equipment for Powertrain systems. Provide mentorship and guidance to ensure alignment with Lucid’s strategic objectives and engineering best practices.
  • Manufacturing Process Development: Design and optimize manufacturing processes for Powertrain production lines, ensuring seamless integration with existing operations and future scalability. Prepare and procure all necessary components and materials to achieve station readiness for line launches.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with engineering, operations, and product teams to specify, engineer, and validate Powertrain equipment. Facilitate clear communication and alignment across all stakeholders to ensure successful project execution.
  • Equipment Design and Validation: Utilize advanced 3D modeling and simulation tools to validate equipment designs, ensuring they meet performance, safety, and quality standards. Implement engineering solutions to address product design changes and optimize manufacturing efficiency.
  • Problem-Solving and Continuous Improvement: Apply analytical methodologies such as 8D, Six Sigma, Design of Experiments (DOE), or similar disciplines to resolve manufacturing challenges and drive process improvements. Leverage data-driven insights to enhance equipment performance and reliability.
  • Equipment and Systems Expertise: Demonstrate hands-on experience with a wide range of manufacturing equipment, including robotics, end-of-arm tooling, pick-and-place automation, vision systems, material handling, fluid dispensing, and laser cleaning/metrology. Familiarity with equipment control systems, I/Os, and basic machine coding logic is essential.
  • Battery Line Specialization: Lead the design and optimization of Battery production lines, including enclosure assembly, pack and module integration, and end-of-line testing. Proficiency in GD&T, CMM, OMM, leak testing, adhesive dispensing, accelerated curing, Hipot testing, dielectric testing, and HV/LV testing is required. Experience with AGVs, ASRS equipment, vision systems with automated fiducial offsets, laser welding, wire bonding, barcode reading, and potting is highly desirable.
  • Layout Optimization: Collaborate with layout engineering teams to prepare and optimize Powertrain line layouts, ensuring efficient workflow, ergonomic considerations, and adherence to safety standards.

Qualifications and Skills

  • Education and Experience: Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering (Electronics), Communications Engineering, or a related field. Minimum of 5 years of professional experience, with at least 8 years in Powertrain Equipment, Manufacturing, or Process Engineering. Direct experience in automotive Powertrain equipment design or sustaining is mandatory.
  • Technical Proficiency: Strong working knowledge of AutoCAD, Catia, and Delmia. Experience with equipment control systems, I/Os, and basic machine coding logic. Familiarity with 3D modeling and simulation tools is highly beneficial.
  • Analytical and Problem-Solving Skills: Proven ability to influence outcomes and drive initiatives in complex environments. Certification in 8D, Six Sigma, DOE, or similar methodologies is a plus.
  • Communication and Collaboration: Exceptional presentation skills with the ability to communicate clearly and professionally at all levels of the organization. Demonstrated experience in cross-functional team leadership and stakeholder management.
  • Travel Requirements: This role requires up to 40% domestic and international travel to support equipment installations, process validations, and collaboration with global teams.
