Key Responsibilities

As an Infection Control Specialist at Bupa Arabia, your core responsibilities will include:

• Developing and Implementing IPC Policies: Design, review, and enforce comprehensive infection control policies and procedures in alignment with national and international guidelines, including those from the World Health Organization (WHO) and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).
• Surveillance and Monitoring: Conduct continuous surveillance of healthcare-associated infections (HAIs), including surgical site infections, urinary tract infections, and bloodstream infections, to identify trends, assess risks, and implement corrective actions.
• Staff Training and Education: Lead training sessions and workshops for healthcare professionals on best practices in infection prevention, hand hygiene, personal protective equipment (PPE) usage, and aseptic techniques to foster a culture of safety and accountability.
• Outbreak Investigation and Response: Investigate and manage outbreaks of infectious diseases within healthcare settings, coordinating with multidisciplinary teams to contain and mitigate risks while ensuring minimal disruption to patient care.
• Auditing and Compliance: Perform regular audits and inspections to evaluate compliance with infection control standards, ensuring adherence to regulatory requirements and accreditation bodies such as the Joint Commission International (JCI).
• Collaboration and Reporting: Work closely with hospital management, clinical staff, and external stakeholders to report on infection control metrics, recommend improvements, and drive continuous quality enhancement initiatives.
• Research and Innovation: Stay abreast of the latest advancements in infection control science, technology, and methodologies, and integrate evidence-based practices into daily operations to enhance patient outcomes.

Qualifications and Skills

To excel in this role, you should possess the following qualifications and competencies:

• A bachelor’s degree in Nursing, Medicine, Microbiology, Public Health, or a related field; a master’s degree or certification in Infection Control (e.g., CIC) is highly desirable.
• A minimum of 3-5 years of experience in infection control, preferably within a healthcare setting, with a proven track record of implementing effective IPC programs.
• In-depth knowledge of infection control principles, including epidemiology, microbiology, and antimicrobial stewardship.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills, with the ability to influence and engage stakeholders at all levels.
• Fluency in English and Arabic, both written and verbal, is essential; additional languages are a plus.
• Proficiency in using infection control software, data analysis tools, and electronic health records (EHR) systems.
