Job Purpose

The Senior Planning Engineer will serve as a cornerstone of our planning function, overseeing a team of Planning Engineers to ensure all project planning activities align with Coastal Contracting Company’s rigorous Planning Manual standards. This role demands a high level of technical expertise, strategic foresight, and an unwavering commitment to delivering projects on time, within budget, and to the highest quality standards. The ideal candidate will bring specialized domain knowledge and a passion for excellence, contributing to the company’s mission of driving positive change in Saudi Arabia and beyond.

Key Responsibilities

  • Strategic Planning and Analysis: Provide comprehensive analysis of cost and schedule trends, identifying critical path changes and associated risks across individual projects or entire portfolios. This includes assessing the impact of these changes on project timelines and budgets.
  • Schedule Quality Assurance: Establish, review, and enforce schedule quality outputs for multiple consultants and contractors across diverse projects. Ensure all planning deliverables meet the company’s stringent quality benchmarks and regulatory requirements.
  • Reporting and Risk Management: Generate and present detailed reports on all planning-related matters, including risk assessments, critical path method (CPM) management, and change control processes. Proactively identify and mitigate potential risks to safeguard project outcomes.
  • Value Engineering and Constructability Reviews: Collaborate with cross-functional teams to evaluate and enhance project designs through value engineering and constructability reviews. Identify opportunities to optimize resources, reduce costs, and improve project feasibility without compromising quality.
  • Documentation and Compliance: Manage the resolution of planning phase risks related to the clarity, specificity, and completeness of construction documents. Ensure all project documentation adheres to industry standards and company policies.
  • Claims Assessment and Resolution: Support the evaluation of time-related claims submitted by consultants and contractors. Provide expert recommendations to Coastal Contracting Company management, enabling informed decision-making on final determinations.
  • Executive Leadership and Communication: Deliver high-level strategic advice to senior management teams, including the preparation of executive-level reports and presentations. Translate complex planning data into actionable insights that drive informed decision-making at the highest levels of the organization.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Education: Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering or a related field such as construction, development, or project management.
  • Professional Experience: Minimum of 8–10 years of hands-on experience in large-scale, mixed-use development projects. A proven track record in managing complex planning functions within dynamic and high-stakes environments is essential.
  • Certifications: Project Management certification, diploma, or master’s degree is highly desirable and will be considered a strong asset.
  • Technical Proficiency: Advanced proficiency in Primavera planning software (latest version) is required. Familiarity with additional project management tools and methodologies will be advantageous.
  • Soft Skills: Exceptional analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills. Ability to collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary teams and present complex information clearly and concisely to executive stakeholders.
