This position is ideal for individuals with a passion for ophthalmology who thrive in a fast-paced, high-volume environment and are committed to continuous learning and professional growth.

Key Responsibilities

The Optometric Technician will serve as the first point of contact for patients, ensuring a seamless and welcoming experience from arrival to departure. Your core duties will include:

  • Patient Interaction and Assessment: Greet patients warmly, obtain comprehensive medical and ocular histories, and prepare them for examinations or procedures with professionalism and care.
  • Diagnostic Testing: Perform a variety of preliminary tests to assess visual acuity, color vision, depth perception, and visual field accuracy. Conduct tonometry and pupil dilation as directed by the supervising clinician.
  • Equipment Operation: Operate and maintain advanced ophthalmic equipment, including autorefractors, lensometers, slit lamps, and Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT) machines, ensuring optimal functionality and accuracy.
  • Diagnostic Imaging and Documentation: Acquire and document high-quality ophthalmic images through procedures such as Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT), corneal topography, fundus photography, and visual field analysis. Maintain meticulous records to support clinical decision-making.
  • Refractive Procedure Support: Assist in pre- and post-operative assessments for refractive surgeries, including LASIK and PRK. Prepare patients, obtain critical measurements, and provide ongoing support to the care team throughout the procedure workflow.
  • Clinical Assistance: Support ophthalmologists during examinations and procedures by ensuring patient comfort, positioning, and safety while maintaining a sterile environment.
  • Administrative Duties: Utilize Electronic Health Record (EHR) systems to maintain accurate patient records, schedule appointments, and facilitate efficient patient flow within the clinic or surgical center.
  • Equipment Maintenance: Sanitize, calibrate, and troubleshoot clinical equipment regularly to ensure compliance with safety and quality standards.
  • Team Collaboration: Coordinate closely with ophthalmologists and other healthcare professionals to provide cohesive care, particularly for patients undergoing refractive procedures.

Qualifications and Skills

To excel in this role, candidates must meet the following criteria:

  • Education: Hold a Diploma in Optometry or Optics, or an equivalent qualification from a recognized institution.
  • Licensure: Possess a valid Saudi Ministry of Health (MOH) license as an Optometry or Optics Technician.
  • Experience: While prior clinical experience is not required, a strong interest in ophthalmology and eye care is essential. Full training will be provided to ensure proficiency in all required procedures and protocols.
  • Technical and Soft Skills:
    • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to interact compassionately and clearly with patients of all ages.
    • High attention to detail and adherence to clinical protocols to ensure patient safety and accurate diagnostic outcomes.
    • Proficiency in basic computer operations and willingness to learn EHR/EMR software systems.
    • Professional demeanor, reliability, and a collaborative team-oriented mindset.
    • Physical stamina to stand for extended periods and assist with patient positioning as needed in a surgical or clinical setting.
