Key Responsibilities

As a Data Centre Technician at DataVolt, you will play a pivotal role in ensuring the seamless operation of our data centre facilities. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Infrastructure Operations & Maintenance: Operate, monitor, and maintain critical data centre infrastructure to guarantee maximum uptime and reliability, including electrical systems, medium voltage equipment, HVAC systems, mechanical cooling solutions, Building Management Systems (BMS), and controls.
  • Preventative & Corrective Maintenance: Conduct planned preventative maintenance and address corrective maintenance tasks to uphold the performance and longevity of data centre systems.
  • Monitoring & Troubleshooting: Utilize BMS, DCIM, and plant monitoring systems to track critical equipment performance, respond promptly to alarms, and resolve operational issues to minimize downtime.
  • Routine Inspections & Documentation: Perform regular equipment readings, operational walkdowns, and inspections across data centre facilities, maintaining accurate records in CMMS work orders and shift logs.
  • Emergency Response & Incident Management: Support emergency response activities, including equipment shutdowns, start-ups, and incident recovery, adhering to approved operating procedures and safety protocols.
  • Safety & Compliance: Work in strict compliance with Permit to Work (PTW), Lock Out Tag Out (LOTO), and Health & Safety procedures to ensure a secure working environment.
  • Collaboration & Commissioning Support: Work closely with engineers, vendors, and contractors during maintenance activities and project works, and assist in commissioning activities, system testing, and operational readiness for new facilities.
  • Shift Work & On-Call Support: Participate in a 24/7 rotating shift pattern, including nights, weekends, and on-call support, to ensure continuous operational coverage for mission-critical systems.

Experience & Qualifications

To excel in this role, you should possess the following qualifications and experience:

  • Industry Experience: Minimum of 3 years of hands-on experience in mission-critical environments such as data centres, power generation, utilities, oil & gas, telecommunications, hospitals, or similar facilities.
  • Technical Background: Technical qualification, Diploma, or Trade Certificate in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, HVAC, Refrigeration & Air Conditioning, Building Management Systems (BMS), Controls, Medium Voltage, or a related discipline.
  • Technical Proficiency: Proven experience maintaining or operating critical infrastructure, including UPS systems, generators, switchgear, medium voltage systems, CRAC/CRAH units, chilled water systems, cooling plants, BMS, or DCIM platforms.
  • Safety & Compliance Knowledge: Strong understanding of preventive maintenance, fault-finding techniques, and safe isolation procedures, along with familiarity with PTW, LOTO, and Health & Safety protocols in industrial or critical environments.
  • Documentation & CMMS Experience: Experience working with Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS) and maintaining precise maintenance documentation.
  • Shift Work Adaptability: Ability to work within a rotating 24/7 shift environment and respond to emergency call-outs as required.
  • Communication & Teamwork: Excellent communication skills with the capacity to collaborate effectively within multidisciplinary teams.
  • Certifications & Training: Industry certifications such as CDCTP, First Aid, HSE, LOTO, or relevant Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) training are advantageous. Previous data centre experience is highly desirable but not mandatory for candidates with strong critical facilities backgrounds.
