Key Responsibilities

As a Materials Engineer in the architectural and structural domain, your core responsibilities will include:

• Material Selection and Specification: Evaluate and recommend advanced materials for architectural and structural applications, ensuring compliance with industry standards, project specifications, and sustainability goals. This includes assessing properties such as strength, durability, thermal performance, and environmental impact.
• Quality Assurance and Control: Develop and implement rigorous quality assurance protocols to verify material performance throughout the project lifecycle. Conduct inspections, testing, and analysis to identify potential issues and propose corrective measures to mitigate risks.
• Research and Innovation: Stay at the forefront of materials science by researching emerging technologies, innovative products, and sustainable alternatives. Collaborate with research institutions, suppliers, and industry partners to integrate state-of-the-art solutions into Parsons’ projects.
• Collaboration with Project Teams: Work closely with architects, structural engineers, contractors, and other stakeholders to ensure seamless integration of materials into project designs. Provide technical guidance and support during the planning, execution, and completion phases of construction projects.
• Regulatory Compliance and Standards: Ensure all materials and processes adhere to local, regional, and international regulations, codes, and standards. Prepare documentation and reports to demonstrate compliance with relevant authorities and certifications.
• Sustainability and Environmental Impact: Champion sustainable practices by evaluating the lifecycle environmental impact of materials and recommending eco-friendly alternatives. Contribute to Parsons’ commitment to reducing carbon footprints and promoting circular economy principles.
• Troubleshooting and Problem-Solving: Address material-related challenges that arise during project execution, including failures, defects, or performance discrepancies. Develop data-driven solutions to resolve issues efficiently and cost-effectively.

Qualifications and Skills

To excel in this role, you must possess the following qualifications and competencies:

• Education: A Bachelor’s degree in Materials Engineering, Civil Engineering, or a related field is required. A Master’s degree or professional certifications in materials science, structural engineering, or sustainability are highly desirable.
• Experience: Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in materials engineering, with a focus on architectural and structural applications. Experience in the construction, infrastructure, or engineering consulting sectors is preferred.
• Technical Proficiency: In-depth knowledge of material properties, testing methodologies, and industry standards (e.g., ASTM, ISO, ACI). Familiarity with software tools for material analysis, such as AutoCAD, Revit, or specialized materials databases is advantageous.
• Analytical and Problem-Solving Skills: Strong analytical abilities to interpret complex data, identify trends, and make informed decisions. Proficiency in statistical analysis and root cause analysis is essential.
• Communication and Collaboration: Excellent verbal and written communication skills to articulate technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders. Ability to work effectively in multidisciplinary teams and foster collaborative relationships.
• Project Management: Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, prioritize tasks, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
• Language Proficiency: Fluency in English is required. Proficiency in Arabic is a plus.
