Key Responsibilities

As a Material Engineer specializing in electrical systems, your core responsibilities will include:

• Material Selection and Evaluation: Conduct thorough assessments to identify and recommend the most suitable electrical materials for projects, considering factors such as conductivity, durability, thermal stability, and cost-effectiveness.
• Quality Assurance and Control: Implement and oversee rigorous quality control processes to ensure that all electrical materials meet or exceed industry standards, regulatory requirements, and Parsons’ stringent specifications.
• Failure Analysis and Troubleshooting: Investigate material failures or performance issues in electrical systems, utilizing advanced analytical techniques to determine root causes and develop effective corrective actions.
• Collaboration with Cross-Functional Teams: Work closely with electrical engineers, project managers, procurement teams, and other stakeholders to integrate material engineering solutions into project designs, ensuring seamless execution and delivery.
• Research and Development: Stay at the forefront of technological advancements in electrical materials by conducting research, evaluating emerging materials, and recommending innovative solutions to enhance project outcomes.
• Documentation and Reporting: Prepare detailed technical reports, material specifications, and compliance documentation to support project deliverables and ensure transparency with clients and regulatory bodies.
• Regulatory Compliance: Ensure all materials and processes adhere to local, national, and international codes and standards, including IEC, IEEE, and ASTM, to guarantee safety and reliability.

Qualifications and Skills

To excel in this role, you must possess the following qualifications and competencies:

• Educational Background: A Bachelor’s degree in Material Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related field. A Master’s degree or professional certifications in material engineering or electrical systems are highly desirable.
• Technical Expertise: Proven experience in material engineering with a focus on electrical systems, including knowledge of conductive materials, insulation technologies, and semiconductor applications.
• Analytical Skills: Strong problem-solving abilities with proficiency in failure analysis techniques, such as microscopy, spectroscopy, and mechanical testing.
• Regulatory Knowledge: In-depth understanding of industry standards and regulations governing electrical materials, such as IPC, UL, and NEMA standards.
• Communication and Collaboration: Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to convey complex technical information to diverse audiences, including non-technical stakeholders.
• Project Management: Experience in managing material-related aspects of engineering projects, including planning, execution, and delivery within budget and timeline constraints.
• Professional Certifications: Certifications such as Certified Materials Professional (CMP) or Certified Reliability Engineer (CRE) are a plus.
