Position Overview
The Trade Bank of Iraq (TBI), Saudi Arabia Branch, is seeking a diligent and proactive Accountant Officer to join its Finance Department. This role is pivotal in maintaining the integrity and accuracy of the Branch’s financial records while ensuring compliance with International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS), Saudi Central Bank (SAMA) regulations, and applicable tax and Zakat requirements. The successful candidate will play a key role in supporting the month-end and year-end closing processes, preparing financial statements, and assisting with regulatory returns. Key Responsibilities
The Accountant Officer will be responsible for a range of critical accounting functions, including:
- General Ledger Management: Accurately recording daily accounting entries in the general ledger, adhering to the approved chart of accounts and accounting policies.
- Reconciliations: Conducting daily and periodic reconciliations of general ledger accounts, suspense accounts, nostro accounts, and inter-branch accounts, ensuring prompt resolution of outstanding items.
- Accounts Payable: Processing supplier invoices, staff expense claims, and payment requests with meticulous attention to supporting documentation and compliance with the Bank’s delegation of authority.
- Fixed Asset Management: Maintaining the fixed asset register, including recording additions and disposals, calculating depreciation, and conducting periodic physical verifications.
- Month-End and Year-End Closing: Preparing and posting accruals, prepayments, provisions, and other adjusting entries to support the timely preparation of financial statements in accordance with IFRS.
- Regulatory Compliance: Assisting in the preparation and submission of prudential and financial returns to the Saudi Central Bank (SAMA), as well as supporting VAT, withholding tax, and Zakat filings with the Zakat, Tax and Customs Authority (ZATCA).
- Budgeting and Forecasting: Contributing to the preparation of budgets, forecasts, and variance analysis by providing accurate and timely financial data to management.
- Audit Support: Maintaining comprehensive and organized accounting records, working papers, and supporting documentation to facilitate internal and external audits, as well as regulatory examinations.
- Process Improvement: Identifying and implementing enhancements to accounting processes and controls to improve efficiency and accuracy.
- Policy Adherence: Ensuring strict compliance with the Bank’s financial policies, procedures, internal controls, and segregation-of-duties requirements at all times.
Qualifications and Experience
To excel in this role, candidates must meet the following requirements:
- Education: A Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field from an accredited institution.
- Professional Certifications: Progress toward or a willingness to pursue professional qualifications such as SOCPA, CPA, ACCA, or CMA is considered a significant advantage.
- Experience:
- 0 to 1 year of experience in accounting, finance, audit, or a related field.
- Prior experience or training within a banking institution, financial organization, or audit firm is highly preferred.
- Fresh graduates with exceptional academic records or relevant internship experience are strongly encouraged to apply.
- Technical Knowledge: Familiarity with IFRS and Saudi Central Bank (SAMA) financial reporting requirements is essential.
- Skills and Competencies:
- Strong numerical and analytical abilities with a keen eye for detail.
- Excellent organizational and time-management skills to meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Proficiency in accounting software and Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel.
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate with cross-functional teams, including Operations, Procurement, and Head Office Finance.
