Are you a highly skilled, Western-trained pediatric ophthalmologist with a specialization in strabismus, seeking to make a transformative impact in a fast-paced, patient-centric private healthcare environment? We are seeking an exceptional Consultant Pediatric Ophthalmologist (Strabismus) to join our esteemed team in Jeddah, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. This role offers the opportunity to deliver cutting-edge clinical care, perform advanced strabismus surgeries, and collaborate with a multidisciplinary team dedicated to excellence in pediatric eye health.

As a Tier-1 Consultant, you will be entrusted with providing specialized diagnostic and surgical interventions for children with complex strabismus and pediatric ophthalmic conditions. Your expertise will be instrumental in shaping high-volume, efficient outpatient care while upholding the highest standards of patient experience, clinical governance, and international best practices.

Key Responsibilities

In this pivotal role, your responsibilities will include:

  • Clinical Excellence and Surgical Precision: Diagnose and manage a comprehensive spectrum of pediatric ophthalmic conditions, including esotropia, exotropia, vertical deviations, amblyopia, congenital disorders, and ocular motility abnormalities. Perform high-precision strabismus surgeries, such as horizontal and vertical muscle procedures, reoperations, and—if trained—adjustable suture techniques.
  • Comprehensive Patient Care: Conduct pediatric clinics, orthoptic assessments, and deliver meticulous pre- and post-operative care to ensure optimal outcomes for every patient.
  • Collaborative Leadership: Work seamlessly with orthoptists, optometrists, anesthesiologists, and pediatric specialists to refine care pathways and enhance interdisciplinary coordination.
  • Patient-Centric Communication: Foster trust and clarity through exceptional patient and family counseling, ensuring a supportive and informative experience throughout the care journey.
  • Operational Efficiency: Maintain high patient throughput in outpatient settings while adhering to rigorous electronic medical record (EMR) documentation standards.
  • Adherence to Global Standards: Uphold stringent safety protocols, infection control measures, and clinical governance frameworks to guarantee the highest level of care.

Qualifications and Experience

To excel in this role, you must meet the following criteria:

  • Tier-1 Certification: Hold one of the following (or equivalent) qualifications to validate your expertise in pediatric ophthalmology and strabismus:
    • UK CCT or CESR (Ophthalmology – Pediatric & Strabismus focus)
    • American Board Certification in Ophthalmology with a Pediatric Ophthalmology/Strabismus fellowship
    • Canadian RCPSC Fellowship
    • Irish CSCST
    • Australian FRANZCO (with pediatric ophthalmology training)
    • German Facharzt (Augenheilkunde – Pediatric/Strabismus)
  • Clinical Experience: Demonstrate 3–5 years of post-consultant experience in pediatric ophthalmology and strabismus, with a proven track record in high-volume horizontal and vertical muscle surgeries.
  • Private Sector Acumen: Experience in private practice settings is highly advantageous, as it aligns with our commitment to delivering efficient, patient-focused care.
  • Licensing Compliance: Ensure eligibility for an SCFHS Consultant License (dependent on the emirate) and completion of DataFlow PSV and relevant authority examinations or exemptions.

Core Competencies

We are seeking a consultant who embodies the following core competencies:

  • Unparalleled expertise in pediatric strabismus diagnostics and surgical correction
  • Exceptional precision in ocular muscle surgery and complex reoperations
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills to engage with patients, families, and colleagues
  • Adaptability and efficiency to thrive in a fast-paced private ophthalmology environment
  • A steadfast commitment to delivering an outstanding patient experience
