Infection Prevention and Control (IPC) Specialist – Ensuring Excellence in Patient Safety and Regulatory Compliance

At USRC, we are committed to fostering a dynamic, inclusive, and high-performing workplace where diversity is celebrated, and innovation thrives. We are seeking a dedicated and highly skilled Infection Prevention and Control (IPC) Specialist to lead our comprehensive IPC program, ensuring the highest standards of patient safety, regulatory compliance, and operational excellence within our dialysis facilities. This pivotal role will empower you to drive impactful change, mitigate healthcare-associated infections (HAIs), and cultivate a culture of continuous improvement across our organization.

As the cornerstone of our IPC strategy, this position will oversee the development, implementation, and continuous refinement of evidence-based infection prevention protocols, aligning with the latest guidelines from the General Department of Infection Prevention and Control (GDIPC), Ministry of Health (MOH), Weqaya, and international best practices. You will play a critical role in safeguarding the health of patients, staff, and visitors while fostering a collaborative environment that prioritizes infection control excellence.

Key Responsibilities and Impact Areas

In this dynamic role, your responsibilities will span strategic planning, surveillance, education, and outbreak response, ensuring our facilities remain at the forefront of infection prevention. Your contributions will directly influence:

  • Program Leadership and Compliance: Develop, implement, and periodically review the IPC program, annual plans, and policies in alignment with Infection Control Risk Assessment (ICRA) frameworks, ensuring full compliance with MOH, GDIPC, CBAHI, and USRC policies. Act as the primary liaison with regulatory authorities, providing accurate and timely reporting on IPC performance and communicable disease incidents.
  • Surveillance and Data-Driven Decision Making: Conduct rigorous infection surveillance using standardized methodologies to monitor dialysis-related infection indicators and transmission risks. Analyze surveillance data to identify trends, benchmark performance, and recommend data-informed interventions to enhance IPC practices.
  • Outbreak Management and Risk Mitigation: Lead the investigation of infection outbreaks, exposure incidents, and significant IPC risks, coordinating corrective and preventive actions to mitigate risks and prevent recurrence. Ensure timely escalation of critical incidents to leadership and regulatory bodies.
  • Staff Training and Education: Design and deliver comprehensive IPC training programs, including orientation, ongoing education, and technical guidance for staff, patients, families, and multidisciplinary teams. Foster a culture of infection prevention awareness through interactive workshops, audits, and hands-on demonstrations.
  • Collaborative Partnerships: Collaborate closely with medical directors, nursing teams, housekeeping, biomedical, dietary, HR, and operational stakeholders to integrate IPC best practices across all service areas. Align IPC responsibilities with regulatory requirements, ensuring protected time and resources are allocated effectively.
  • Environmental Hygiene and Safety: Oversee environmental hygiene activities, including hand hygiene compliance, PPE usage, isolation precautions, sharps safety, waste management, and dialysis station turnover protocols. Conduct regular audits and environmental rounds to identify and address infection risks in clinical and support service areas.
  • Occupational Health and Safety: Manage staff screening, immunization programs, and occupational exposure protocols in collaboration with relevant stakeholders. Ensure adherence to post-exposure protocols and occupational health guidelines.
  • Performance Monitoring and Continuous Improvement: Maintain comprehensive IPC evidence files, surveillance records, audit schedules, committee reports, and corrective action plans (CAPA). Present IPC performance indicators and findings to leadership, IPC committees, and regulatory authorities, driving continuous improvement initiatives.

Why This Role Matters

As a Full-Time IPC Practitioner, you will be exclusively dedicated to infection prevention activities, ensuring your focus remains unwavvering on safeguarding patient health and operational integrity. Reporting to the Clinical Services Director with dotted-line oversight from the Head Nurse and Medical Director, this role offers a unique opportunity to shape IPC strategies, influence policy, and drive measurable improvements in infection control outcomes. Your expertise will not only enhance patient safety but also strengthen USRC’s reputation as a leader in dialysis care excellence.

Join us in making a tangible difference in the lives of our patients and communities. If you are passionate about infection prevention, committed to regulatory compliance, and eager to lead transformative change, we invite you to be part of our mission.
