الوصف الوظيفي

Automation Engineer, Powertrain – Drive the Future of Sustainable Mobility at Lucid

At Lucid, we are revolutionizing the automotive industry by delivering cutting-edge mobility solutions that seamlessly blend performance, sustainability, and innovation. Our proprietary technology and software-defined vehicle architecture empower us to redefine what’s possible in electric mobility. With a commitment to excellence and a culture of relentless innovation, Lucid is shaping the future of transportation—one groundbreaking vehicle at a time.

We are seeking a highly skilled Automation Engineer, Powertrain to join our dynamic team and play a pivotal role in the development, deployment, and optimization of advanced automation systems for our next-generation powertrain and high-voltage battery assembly lines. In this critical position, you will collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure seamless integration, reliability, and compliance with industry-leading standards in controls, cybersecurity, and operational excellence.

Your Impact

As an Automation Engineer at Lucid, you will be at the forefront of our manufacturing innovation, contributing to the design, commissioning, and continuous improvement of automated systems that drive efficiency, precision, and safety. Your expertise will be instrumental in transitioning from prototype to production, ensuring our AMP-2 Drive Unit and High-Voltage Battery assembly processes meet the highest standards of performance, traceability, and uptime. You will also play a key role in knowledge transfer, empowering our global teams—including those in Saudi Arabia—to sustain and enhance these systems long after launch.

Key Responsibilities

Your role will encompass a broad spectrum of technical and operational responsibilities, ensuring end-to-end excellence in automation. Below are the core areas where you will make a significant impact:

  • PLC Programming, Standards, and Change Governance
Develop, test, and maintain robust PLC programs, function blocks, and data structures for our Drive Unit and HV Battery assembly equipment, adhering to Lucid’s stringent coding, tagging, and documentation standards. Implement a rigorous change management process, including backup protocols, impact assessments, peer reviews, and validation testing to ensure seamless transitions and minimal downtime. Troubleshoot complex PLC, I/O, sequencing, and safety-circuit issues, conducting root cause analyses and implementing permanent corrective actions to enhance system reliability.
  • FAT/SAT Execution and Equipment Acceptance
Lead the Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT) and Site Acceptance Testing (SAT) processes, verifying that supplier-delivered controls meet AMP-2 specifications across I/O, sequence logic, safety functions, and data interfaces. Own the closure of controls punch lists, supplier retesting, and acceptance documentation, ensuring a smooth transition from development to production. Provide critical support during Safe Launch, volume ramp, and stable production phases, guaranteeing compliance with Lucid’s controls, functional safety, and cybersecurity standards.
  • HMI/SCADA, MES/APM, and Traceability Integration
Design intuitive HMI/SCADA interfaces, alarms, and diagnostic tools that enhance operator efficiency and reduce mean time to repair (MTTR). Integrate PLC systems with Manufacturing Execution Systems (MES), Advanced Planning and Scheduling (APM), and other enterprise solutions using standardized protocols like OPC-UA. Validate machine states, production metrics, and traceability data to ensure end-to-end accuracy, collaborating closely with Manufacturing, Quality, and IT teams to resolve interface issues and maintain data integrity.
  • Networks, OT Cybersecurity, and Recovery
Configure and optimize industrial networks, including EtherNet/IP and managed switches, to ensure reliable field-device communication. Implement and enforce Lucid’s OT cybersecurity protocols, including role-based access controls, secure backups, network segmentation, and incident response procedures. Conduct regular recovery testing to mitigate risks and ensure business continuity in the event of cyber threats or system failures.
  • Vision, Robotics, Motion, and Powertrain Interfaces
Deploy and troubleshoot advanced vision systems (e.g., Cognex, Keyence) for inspection, orientation, label verification, and traceability in high-precision assembly environments. Integrate and commission FANUC robot cells, ensuring seamless PLC/I/O handshakes, safety protocols, and cycle-level optimization. Commission and debug variable frequency drives (VFDs), servo systems, encoders, and motion controls to achieve precise positioning, homing, and actuator performance for critical powertrain applications.

This role demands a proactive, detail-oriented professional with a passion for innovation and a commitment to driving operational excellence. If you thrive in a fast-paced, collaborative environment and are eager to contribute to the next era of electric mobility, we invite you to join Lucid’s mission to Compromise Nothing™ in the pursuit of groundbreaking engineering solutions.
