Staff Engineer, Lighting Systems – Drive Innovation in Automotive Lighting Excellence at Lucid

At Lucid, we are pioneering the future of mobility by merging cutting-edge technology with uncompromising design and engineering excellence. Our award-winning vehicles, including the Lucid Air and Lucid Gravity, redefine industry standards by seamlessly integrating performance, sustainability, and innovation. As a vertically integrated company, we bring together global talent to create mobility solutions that challenge the status quo and set new benchmarks for what’s possible.

We are seeking a dynamic and highly skilled Staff Engineer, Lighting Systems to serve as the on-site technical leader for lighting systems across our manufacturing operations. This role demands a hands-on engineer with a deep expertise in mechanical design, hardware integration, supplier coordination, and manufacturing support. The ideal candidate will embody ownership, urgency, and accountability to ensure lighting systems meet the highest standards of engineering, quality, and program milestones.

Key Responsibilities

In this pivotal role, you will:

  • Lead Technical Ownership: Serve as the primary on-site technical authority for lighting systems during prototype development, launch, ramp-up, and production stabilization, ensuring seamless execution from concept to serial production.
  • Drive Cross-Functional Collaboration: Act as the key technical liaison between our manufacturing plant in AMP-2 KSA, global lighting engineering teams in Europe and North America, suppliers, and internal manufacturing organizations. Align technical priorities, resolve issues, and ensure launch readiness through collaborative problem-solving.
  • Resolve Technical Challenges: Lead comprehensive root cause analyses for lighting-related concerns identified during builds, launches, production, validation, or field feedback. Develop and implement containment and corrective action plans to mitigate risks and ensure continuous improvement.
  • Troubleshoot and Optimize: Provide hands-on support for mechanical and hardware troubleshooting of lighting modules, including brackets, housings, lenses, connectors, PCBs, light guides, harness interfaces, ECUs, and mounting features. Ensure all components align with design intent and manufacturing requirements.
  • Review and Interpret Technical Documentation: Analyze and interpret CAD data, 2D drawings, GD&T specifications, EBOMs, release documentation, DFMEA/PFMEA, DVP&Rs, and supplier technical documents to support plant execution and production readiness.
  • Coordinate Engineering Changes: Manage engineering changes, deviations, temporary approvals, build concerns, and design improvements to support production timelines and program milestones. Ensure alignment between design intent and manufacturing execution.
  • Participate in Critical Activities: Actively engage in line trials, build events, quality reviews, launch meetings, supplier reviews, and vehicle-level issue resolution activities to ensure smooth operations and adherence to program timelines.
  • Validate and Escalate Risks: Work closely with suppliers and internal teams to validate corrected parts, confirm design intent, and ensure readiness for continued production use. Track open lighting issues, owners, timelines, risk levels, containment status, and permanent corrective actions to maintain transparency and accountability.
  • Provide Strategic Insights: Deliver clear, concise written and verbal updates to leadership on issue status, technical risks, launch readiness, and escalation needs. Identify and escalate program risks early, offering actionable technical recommendations and recovery plans.
  • Lead Sustaining Improvements: Collaborate with headquarters teams to drive ongoing product improvements for lighting systems, ensuring continuous innovation and alignment with evolving industry standards.

This role is ideal for an engineer who thrives in a fast-paced, collaborative environment and is passionate about shaping the future of automotive lighting technology. Join Lucid and be part of a team that refuses to compromise—where your expertise will help redefine the possibilities of mobility.
