Design Engineer (Manufacturing)

Position Overview

We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Design Engineer (Manufacturing) to join our dynamic team in Saudi Arabia, Middle East. Reporting directly to the Engineering Manager, this role is pivotal in driving the engineering design, analysis, and documentation of heavy fabricated equipment, including pressure vessels, piping systems, and process equipment. The successful candidate will ensure full compliance with ASME codes, NACE standards, applicable pipeline codes, and customer specifications while delivering designs that are safe, manufacturable, cost-effective, and aligned with project delivery timelines.

Key Responsibilities

The Design Engineer will play a critical role in the following areas:

• Engineering Design & Code Compliance:
  • Prepare detailed design calculations, drawings, and technical documentation in strict compliance with ASME (Section VIII, B31.3, B31.4, B31.8), NACE standards (MR0175 / ISO 15156 for sour service), applicable pipeline codes, and international standards.
  • Perform mechanical design calculations, including thickness determination, stress analysis, nozzle loads, supports, and reinforcement.
  • Ensure all designs meet stringent safety, reliability, and regulatory requirements.
• 3D Modeling & Drafting:
  • Develop 2D drawings and 3D models using industry-leading software such as AutoCAD and SolidWorks.
  • Generate General Arrangement (GA) drawings, fabrication drawings, isometrics, and Bills of Materials (BOMs).
  • Maintain rigorous revision control and document management practices.
• Material Selection & Corrosion Considerations:
  • Select appropriate materials based on process conditions, corrosion resistance, and NACE requirements.
  • Ensure compliance with material standards, including ASTM, ASME, and API specifications.
  • Review Material Test Certificates (MTCs) for compliance and traceability.
• Interdisciplinary Coordination:
  • Collaborate closely with Production, Planning, Quality Assurance/Quality Control (QA/QC), and Procurement teams to ensure seamless project execution.
  • Provide technical support during fabrication, welding, and inspection stages, clarifying queries and resolving shop floor issues.
• Customer & Vendor Interface:
  • Review and interpret customer specifications, datasheets, and Requests for Quotation (RFQs).
  • Interface with clients, third-party inspectors, and consultants to obtain necessary approvals and ensure alignment with project requirements.
• Design Review & Validation:
  • Conduct internal design reviews to ensure compliance before releasing designs for fabrication.
  • Support Hazard and Operability (HAZOP) studies and design risk assessments where applicable.
  • Maintain comprehensive documentation for code compliance and audit readiness.
• Documentation & Deliverables:
  • Prepare and submit design calculation reports, drawings (GA, fabrication, as-built), material specifications, BOMs, data sheets, and technical submittals.
  • Ensure proper engineering document control and adherence to project documentation standards.
• Continuous Improvement:
  • Identify opportunities for design optimization and cost reduction to enhance project efficiency.
  • Standardize design practices and templates to improve consistency and quality across projects.
  • Stay abreast of the latest code revisions and industry best practices to maintain technical excellence.
• Quality and Safety Responsibilities:
  • Comply with STATS and client quality, safety, and environmental management systems and procedures at all times.
  • Immediately report all accidents, incidents, near misses, and hazards, ensuring relevant paperwork is completed accurately.

Qualifications, Skills, and Experience

To excel in this role, candidates must meet the following criteria:

• Education: Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
• Experience: 5–10 years of hands-on experience in the design of heavy fabricated equipment, preferably within the oil & gas, EPC, or fabrication industry.
• Technical Proficiency:
  • Proficient in design and drafting software, including AutoCAD and SolidWorks (preferred).
  • Strong understanding of pressure vessel and piping design, welding techniques, and WPS/PQR requirements.
  • Familiarity with fabrication processes and their limitations.
  • Knowledge of Finite Element Analysis (FEA) tools is considered a significant advantage.
• Code Knowledge: In-depth working knowledge of ASME Section VIII, B31.3, B31.4, B31.8, and NACE MR0175 / ISO 15156 standards.

  • Strong communication and coordination skills to collaborate effectively across teams and with external stakeholders.
