Tractebel is seeking a highly skilled and proactive Site Scheduling & Planning Engineer to join our team for the Al Khushaybi Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) Independent Power Project (IPP) in the Al Qassim Region, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. This project, developed by ENGIE and its consortium partners under the Saudi Power Procurement Company (SPPC) Battery Energy Storage Program, represents a significant milestone in the region’s energy transition, with a capacity of 500 MW and 4 hours of storage duration (2,000 MWh). As the Owner’s Engineer, Tractebel is responsible for providing independent technical oversight and assurance throughout the project lifecycle, ensuring adherence to contractual, regulatory, and international technical standards.
Key Responsibilities
The Site Scheduling & Planning Engineer will play a pivotal role in ensuring the successful execution of the project by overseeing and managing all scheduling and planning activities. Your core responsibilities will include:
- Project Schedule Development & Maintenance: Create, refine, and maintain the project schedule to ensure timely progress and alignment with contractual milestones. This includes integrating inputs from all stakeholders and ensuring the schedule reflects the most accurate and up-to-date information.
- Schedule Monitoring & Validation: Continuously monitor contractor schedule updates, validate reported progress, and identify discrepancies or potential delays. This role requires a keen eye for detail and the ability to assess the impact of changes on the overall project timeline.
- Critical Path Analysis: Conduct thorough analyses to identify critical path activities and highlight potential schedule risks. Proactively communicate these risks to the project team and propose mitigation strategies to minimize disruptions.
- Performance Reporting: Prepare comprehensive weekly and monthly schedule performance reports for the Owner. These reports will provide insights into project progress, highlight deviations from the baseline schedule, and recommend corrective actions.
- Schedule Risk Management: Perform schedule risk assessments to evaluate potential threats to the project timeline. Develop and implement effective mitigation measures to ensure project resilience and minimize delays.
- Recovery Plan Evaluation: Review contractor recovery plans and assess their feasibility in addressing schedule delays. Collaborate with the project team to ensure that recovery strategies are realistic and aligned with project objectives.
- Discipline Interface Coordination: Facilitate seamless coordination between different disciplines to maintain consistent project execution sequencing. This includes ensuring that all interfaces are properly managed to avoid bottlenecks and delays.
- Change Impact Analysis: Analyze the impact of changes on the project schedule and support the evaluation of delay claims. Provide data-driven insights to inform decision-making and maintain project integrity.
- Resource Tracking: Monitor manpower and equipment resources against planned project curves to ensure optimal resource allocation and avoid shortages or overages.
Qualifications & Experience
To excel in this role, you must meet the following requirements:
- Education: A Bachelor’s degree in a relevant engineering discipline, with a mandatory certification in Scheduling & Planning. Additional professional certifications related to the role or discipline are highly desirable.
- Experience: Proven experience in scheduling and planning within the power sector, with a strong preference for candidates with Substation and BESS-related experience in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA). Experience with BESS projects is particularly advantageous.
