Drive Innovation in Drill Bit Design at Baker Hughes

At Baker Hughes, we are pioneering the future of energy technology, empowering our global team of engineers to design, develop, and deliver cutting-edge solutions that redefine efficiency, safety, and sustainability in the oil and gas sector. As a Mechanical Design Engineer - Drill Bits, you will play a pivotal role in shaping next-generation drill bit technology, collaborating with cross-functional teams to optimize performance, enhance manufacturing processes, and accelerate innovation. Join us in pushing the boundaries of what’s possible—where your expertise directly impacts the energy industry’s evolution.

In this dynamic role, you will leverage your mechanical engineering prowess to create high-performance drill bit designs using advanced 3D modeling systems and data-driven methodologies. Your work will bridge the gap between conceptualization and execution, ensuring seamless integration with product line management, operations, manufacturing, and technology teams. By documenting lessons learned and driving process improvements, you will contribute to a culture of continuous optimization, where every design iteration enhances both product performance and operational efficiency.

Key Responsibilities

Your impact will be measured by your ability to:

  • Develop and refine drill bit designs using state-of-the-art 3D CAD systems, ensuring precision, durability, and performance alignment with industry standards.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to troubleshoot technical challenges, resolve manufacturing issues, and implement solutions that elevate product quality and reliability.
  • Apply your expertise in Finite Element Analysis (FEA) and Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) to analyze stress, fluid dynamics, and structural integrity, informing data-backed design decisions.
  • Advocate for and enforce rigorous design standards, ensuring consistency, compliance, and scalability across projects while supporting updates to improve industry practices.
  • Foster a culture of knowledge sharing by documenting technical insights, best practices, and process improvements for cross-functional teams.
  • Adhere to Baker Hughes’ unwavering commitment to Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) protocols, quality assurance, legal compliance, and cultural excellence in every project.

What You Bring to the Table

We are seeking a detail-oriented Mechanical Design Engineer with:

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from an accredited institution, complemented by 2–5 years of hands-on experience in drill bit design, preferably in a high-impact industrial or energy sector role.
  • Proficient mastery of 3D CAD software, with a strong foundation in mechanical component design and applied engineering principles.
  • A deep understanding of FEA and CFD principles, enabling you to select and apply the right analytical tools to solve complex design challenges.
  • Exceptional problem-solving skills, with the ability to translate technical data into actionable design recommendations that enhance performance and efficiency.
  • Fluency in English, both verbally and in writing, to facilitate seamless communication across global teams.
  • A collaborative mindset and a passion for innovation, driven by a desire to make meaningful contributions to the energy transition.

Why Join Baker Hughes?

At Baker Hughes, we believe in empowering our employees to thrive in roles that align with their ambitions and lifestyles. Our commitment to your growth and well-being is reflected in:

  • Comprehensive benefits that prioritize your holistic well-being, from private medical care and life insurance to mental health resources, parental leave, and education assistance.
  • Career development opportunities that foster leadership, innovation, and continuous learning, ensuring you grow alongside our company.
  • A culture of inclusion and authenticity, where diversity of thought and background is celebrated, and every voice is valued.
  • The chance to work on groundbreaking technologies that are shaping the future of energy—making it safer, cleaner, and more efficient for generations to come.

As a Senior Engineer, Mechanical, Product Design and Engineering (internal title), you will not only advance your career but also contribute to a legacy of innovation that spans over a century. Baker Hughes is an Equal Opportunity Employer, dedicated to fostering a workplace where talent, creativity, and collaboration thrive. If you are ready to take on a role that challenges you intellectually, inspires you professionally, and aligns with your passion for engineering excellence, we invite you to be part of our journey forward.
